Description: One of the cosiest pubs in Oxford. When it comes to Oxford pubs The Royal Oak is the genuine article. Much like our well-kept real ales and impressive range of world beers, wines and spirits, our interiors are drenched in class, character and a dash of urban cool, with lots of rooms and cosy little corners to kick back in. It's just the place to enjoy a plate of seriously good pub food.

“Traditionally wholesome”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

We found this traditional pup for a quick lunch. It was an unusually sunny day with blue sky's. we were led to the back garden which was quaint. The services was homely and welcoming. The food was fantastic. I had the veggie burger which was made of lentils and spinach. The presentation was artistic. My colleagues had the fish and chips and sausages with mash. Defenitly would recommend and will return.

“Good Beer and Food but Sloooooooooooooow Service”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Eight of us drank and ate at the Royal Oak a few nights ago. We all ordered food at the same time, in a row actually. Five members of our party received their food within half an hour, including three who ordered cheeseburgers. The other three waited for over an hour before being served. They were not the last three to order but they were the last to be served. One had ordered a bacon cheeseburger, so I guess it took the chef 30 additional minutes to add a piece of bacon to a cheeseburger. When we asked one of the servers about the delayed orders, she replied that one of the three chefs had not reported for work that evening. As I read other Trip Advisor reviews complaining of slow service, I guess the chef takes many a night off. Seriously though, with decent service, the Royal Oak could be a fine pub.

“Delicious food and good atmosphere”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

I have eaten at the Royal Oak three times now and have not been disappointed. Initially after reading reviews on trip advisor, I was a bit dubious about the quality of service and food, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Everytime I have eaten here the service has been quick and friendly. The pub has a good atmosphere and the building alone is worth paying the Royal Oak a visit. Food is excellent, I've not yet been able to fault a single dish. Also, it is very reasonably priced. They have a set menu too, which is worth a go.

Definately worth a visit.

“Well worth the extra few minutes walk - great beer”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Having visited Oxford several times and stayed at nearby Rewley House in Wellington Square I was not aware of this pub situated on the Woodstock Road heading out of town, a mere five minutes walk from where I was staying. It's a shame that I missed it before as the beer is excellent, particularly the Sharps Doom Bar and the interior a number of smaller rooms around the bar which gives it a more friendly and private atmosphere, even when very busy. The staff are friendly and efficient and it was a really nice pub - well worth a visit. I did not try the food so cannot comment on it.

Glad you found us when visiting Oxford - if you head to Oxford again its worth looking at our twitter (@royaloakoxford) and facebook (royaloakoxford) pages as we often show which guest ales we have on - Doom bar is one of our staple favourites and an almost permanent feature on our bar !

Thanks again
