It may look like a shop front but the food was excellent. We ate on a Sunday night and the restaurant was quite busy even tough it was early. They also do a take away service. The food was very very good! Vegetarian dishes are not always easy to find and cook but they managed it extremely well. We will visit again as soon as we return to Oxford.

Small and friendly restaurant with delicious menu. I had a lamb and chickpea dish from the specials board, excellent. Family owned business with recipes reflected in the dishes.

This is the only Indian restaurant we go to now, it is not part of the new wave of over posh, over priced variety. The food is great in the British Indian style of good quality of taste without the excess of greasy fat. You feel it has been cooked for you.

The Standard is how a restaurant should be. Friendly service, a great atmosphere and of course fantastic food. What pleased me and my family most were the specials which were dishes we had never eaten before in any of Oxford's other Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants. We had Lamb Nihari – slow cooked on the bone lamb curry with chickpea (£9.95), Lal Lao Chicken – on the bone chicken curry with pumpkin (£8.95), Goan Fish Curry - pan fried seabass fillet in a lightly spiced tomato and coconut sauce (£12.95) and King Prawns poached in a chilli, coconut and lime leaf sauce (£13.95). All were individual and exceptionally tasty, a refreshing change. We also had a few other more common dishes, Chicken Zalfrezi (£6.65) and Chicken Rogon (£5.95) which were both excellent. The Poppadoms and Naan were great and the Onion Bhaji was fluffy, light and crispy.
I would recommend The Standard to everyone, a real gem in the over-crowded Oxford restaurant scene.
