Owner description: Oxford Official Walking Tours are fun and informative. The best way to explore Oxford’s history, University, and what lies hidden behind the College gates is on foot with a professional Green/Blue Badge Guide. There is a tour for all interests including the 'Best Told Story' award winning University and City Tour - a great introduction to Oxford. There are tours for fans of Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Inspector Morse, as well as CS Lewis and Tolkien and Philip Pullman. All leaving from the Visitor Information Centre on Broad St, your tour will be conducted by a professionally trained guide who holds Green/Blue Badge awarded by the National Institute of Tourist Guiding. Your guide will also be a member of the Oxford Guild of Tour Guides, and able to answer any questions you may have and make suggestions of where else to see. Oxford Official Walking Tours are Visit England Quality Assured and Highly Commended in the Visit England Beautiful South Awards 2018-19.

Our tour guide was a pleasant woman who unfortunately could not speak loudly and clearly enough to be heard. She was also exceptionally dull. She thought that a barrage of meaningless statistics and dates made for an interesting tour. It does not. She had no anecdotes to bring the city's history to life. Plus, most annoyingly, all but one of the Oxford colleges were closed to visitors so we were forced to stand around in the hot street listening to her babble on about things we did not get to see. The tour company must have known in advance the colleges would be closed on this day for graduation ceremonies. It should have advised me of this when I booked or offered a reduced price for the reduced tour.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and I am sorry to hear that your tour was not to your satisfaction.

May I ask how long was your tour for and when did you join this tour (date & time) as we work with over 40 guides and I would like to forward your review to the appropriate one.

Regarding access to colleges, please note that colleges are private properties and can close without any previous warning and for different reasons although on Degree Days some colleges close their doors to visitors but we do not necesarily know in advance, which ones or how many of them will be closed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

First: We had a handicapped person in the group and the guide never waited for her.
Second: The guide never, never waited for the whole group before start to speak. Then we miss many of the things.
Third: I don't know what they say access to colleges...college, because only one would be more appropriate.
Fourth: It was especially incredible when in front of a building, of course closed, the guide told us "if we could go into the building we could see this beautiful pictures in the ceiling" and she showed us a photo
Fifth: When finally it seemed that we were going into a building the guide told us that we were not allowed to do it...and we finished our tour
Sixth: I wonder "why have I paid 8 pounds for a tour that almost show me the same things that the free tour?"

Our guide was fantastic, she was informative and upbeat. Not only did we get to hear and see all there was to know about Inspector Morse, (Lewis) and Endeavour - we were treated to extra knowledge about the 38 colleges under Oxford Uni.
I have to also add, our guide was very friendly, well spoken and immaculately dressed.

Be careful to chose the Official Oxford Walking Tour. It lasted two hours and was extremely comprehensive. We were shown into the dining hall of Exeter College which was a bonus. Our guide Heidi was really good and we can truly recommend this tour.

We toured Oxford on a Sunday morning and were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather. Heidi met our group (about 10 of us) in front of the visitor's center and gave us a basic introduction to the city. We toured Jesus College first and were pleased to find out that she had arranged special access for us into one of the quads and a dining hall. Here she explained how the university is structured and answered any questions we had. We then proceeded back through the streets as she pointed out other colleges and interesting tidbits about the city. We appreciated how she mentioned connections to literary figures such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, and Lewis Carroll. She also pointed out places where movies and TV shows had been filmed as we walked along. It was also very helpful of her to point out options for additional tours if we wanted to explore any areas further (the Christ Church self-guided tour was great!) Throughout the whole tour, it was clear that Heidi was very knowledgeable and has a true passion for the city. She was easy to talk with and made the whole experience very enjoyable. We learned a lot of great information and felt that we definitely got our money's worth.
