We were passing by and the place look nice so we went in for dinner. We didn't go for the all you can eat due to the lack of sashimi selection. The food was 4 stars, but the service wasn't good. It was hard to get a waitress to pay you any attention (and the restaurant wasn't busy and there were at least 4 waiters!), so we had to wait and gesticulate a lot until someone actually came to our table. When we finally ordered, they didn't bring one of the dishes, which we thought was still being prepared. We started to eat and once we realised they actually forgot, we ask for the said dish. And that's when they blew it, trying to convince us that they brought another dish by mistake. (It wasn't true!) We didn't argue and just asked for the dish we ordered. It arrived, was tasty and we just ate, paid and left. Overall, go for the food and be very patient with the service.

My partner and I tried this restaurant for a dinner. unfortunately the food was mediocre in terms of quality & taste, whilst there were differences in what we received vs. what we had ordered. We were very disappointed with the rude stuff; we attended a heated argument between a waitress and a group of people at an adjustment table (order complains), with the waiter behind the counter swearing in a highly inappropriate manner. As a positive we would keep the nice setting and the by the river location.

Well, what can I say about the negative comment left here by overconfident individuals,from what I can see is corporate sabotage, the strategy is blatantly obvious... The sushi here are great, staff are all friendly and polite. The fish is handle by professional chef with more than 20 years experience honing his craft in Japanese cuisine. I know because I make an effort to know where my fish came form...

Value for money and as I said before fantastic place to eat real sushi.

To say that the customer service was appalling would be an understatement. Would not recommend if you dislike being insulted and/or demeaned.

Sushi was equivalent to balls of rice. Tempura seriously over fried and terrible.

We were served by three people.

One Asian girl could not understand what a napkin was and we had to explain.

A waiter told us off for not eating the thick layer of deep fried oil covering the tempura. He complained that we were wasting food.

The third member of staff was the "highlight" of our experience. As soon as we filled out our all you can eat form, she gave us a one minute lecture on "how things worked in this restaurant". Even my PhD supervisor never took this condescending tone towards me. She repeatedly stressed we were not understanding how their restaurant operated. Wow. Later, she came over to complain about us not eating the deep fried tempura. She scolded us for not consuming the layers of deep fried fat. She said we were wasting their restaurant's expensive tempura powder. Wow. The third lecture she delivered was on how we should not have ordered so much in the beginning, furthermore she thought we were complaining about having to pay extra for the deep fried food that we couldn't force ourselves to shove down our throats. So she kept telling us "I TOLD YOU SO". Even my mother has stopped using this phrase. When we calmly told her "please give us our bill", she delivered her fourth lecture of the night on "I told you the rules when you ordered". At this point I just wanted to get out of this restaurant. I was worried that this may be a horror movie where you enter and get stuck in this sushi hell being demeaned by this waitress for the rest of eternity. The relief we felt when we finally left was the best moment of our day. As we were preparing to leave, we could not help noticing this woman complaining loudly in Chinese about us being too dumb to understand the rules. Great attitude.

More lecturing in this sushi restaurant than Oxford University. Lesson learnt.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our Oxford branch of Sushimania. We are deeply sorry that you did not enjoy your experience at the restaurant. Although our bottomless menu might be difficult to understand for some. It is designed so that customers can sample a variety of dishes yet avoid food waste. The explanation of the menu should not feel like a lecture and it's something we will look into.
