My stay was a nightmare over 200 per night for room off a back street - why has my review been removed and why have trip advisor not advised me of a problem with my review - if they have a problem ! No parking , not secure , whirring air con at door , door on side street, window on side street , rubbish ( old mattress etc ) propped against other side of the wall of the bedroom . I could go on - just nota hotel

We are sorry you experienced these issues. The hotel is now under new management, and offers a fully licensed bar and restaurant/pizzeria, offering cask conditioned real ale, fine wine, Lavazza espresso, full english breakfast and Might Leaf afternoon tea. We offer a "Bubbly Reception" (complimentary Prosecco, Cava or Champagne upon arrival), as well as Italian chocolates. We also provide a complimentary grazing table throughout the day, warm scones at 2pm, canapé with drinks between 6pm and 8pm, and complimentary antipasto and petit four to enjoy with a night cap from 8.30pm to 10pm. If you visit Oxford again, please contact me directly, at: manager@ethoshotels.co.uk, so I can arrange a complementary upgrade to one of our comfortable and spacious Suites.

This hotel is an over-priced serviced room vendor.
The owner, was surly, rude, and gave the impression he did not want to be bothered by you, except to take your money.
Reception was left unattended, and when I asked for a printed invoice, he just said, 'I'll email it, my computer is not turned on.' !No customer service skills at all.
Don't stay here.
Awful.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at the Ethos Hotel.

On arriving at 12 on the Saturday afternoon the hotel was empty with a note informing guests to pick up the receiver and wait for an answer.

Approximately 25minutes later a young lady arrived and informed us the room would not be ready until 3.

No parking available in close proximity. The telephone, when asked suggested a park and ride over a mile away!!

Not a good first impression - in fact we did consider looking for another hotel!

Luckily for us an on street resident with some insider knowledge showed us a parking space that was not permit holders only.

Later when we returned a real life person showed us to our room - number 7.

She showed us how to work the heating and air conditioning.

The hair dryer was broke but lucky someone was still around to supply another one.

The room was good... Clean and the bed very comfortable!!

Kitchenette would be great for families and in the morning it was a nice change to stay in bed a have a coffee and breakfast bun.

They also supplied real milk and not the powdered stuff!

The location to town was the best bit about this hotel... A short walk into beautiful Oxford!!

We stayed here for 3 nights in April, mainly because it was close to friends, but it turned out to be very convenient to everything in Oxford. It was a short walk along the river to the Folly Bridge, or over the Grandpont Bridge. 10 minutes into the centre. Booking was easy. The reception was friendly. The room was good. It was separate from the reception building which made it very easy to pop in and out of the room. The room was comfortable, but having a 3rd (rollaway) bed in it made it a bit tight, with all the luggage. The bathroom was very nice, esp the underfloor heating. A good find.

My husband and I recently stayed in room 2 for four nights at the end of March. We had a bit of trouble getting to England from America due to British Airways ineptitude causing us to have a 7 hour delay on our international flight from Miami, Florida. This caused us to miss our planned train at Paddington, and therefore, didn't get to Ethos until 23:30 that evening (well after reception closed). I contacted the hotel via email as soon as I learned of our delay, and they quickly got back to me with news that they would send me detailed instructions for letting ourselves into our room when we finally arrived. They followed up in a timely manner before we boarded our flight with the instructions, which worked like a charm when we arrived cold and exhausted. They had even left a light on for us and the heat was turned up awaiting our arrival. There had been some comments posted on here about problems with reception & getting in late, but we had absolutely no problem, which was a great relief given all of the other problems we had encountered just trying to get there.
There also have been comments about the room size, which for many Americans will be a bit different; however, my husband and I didn't mind it at all. Though we do tend to like smaller, well-designed spaces, and they have definitely done that with their rooms especially with the incorporation of the kitchenette and closet. The bed & pillows were comfortable, and the shower was great too. Each day, the hotel staff replenished a breakfast basket in the room that consisted of a small cereal collection, two muffins, granola, biscuits (cookies), & several other items. Plus there was a nice selection of teas and coffee with all of the necessary bits included. Below the counter was a small fridge that contained a small container of milk, yogurt, and juice.
The only reason we did not give it 5 stars is that our particular room had a minor black ant problem, though this was mainly centered to one side of the toilet and around the kitchen sink. My guess is that they were coming in around the plumbing due to England experiencing their coldest March in 50 years. They seemed to disappear by our third night, so I assumed staff noticed the problem. The only other problem with the room was the kitchen facet was broken. It worked, but it was not attached properly as it kept falling over unless we placed it just right. Overall though, these two issues were minor and didn't really bother us since after all, we were in Oxford to see Oxford- not the hotel room. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: We opted for a superior room, which I believe is their smallest one. Perfect for two people. We didn...

Just returned from a 3 night stay here over the easter weekend. The hotel is only a short walk from the train station (15-20 minutes) and easy enough to find. Check in was quick and we were staying in a room outside and around the corner from the reception which was nice as it felt more private. The room itself was small but lovely with a large, very comfortable bed and good ensuite facilities. The small kitchenette was a nice touch and the breakfast basket (cereal, muffins, breakfast bars, juice cartons, yoghurt etc) was topped up daily. Having sky movies available and a dvd player was also a bonus! The city centre is only a short walk away (10-15 minutes) and easy to get to, and the staff were happy to offer directions. Only minor points are that it would have been nice to have a small mirror in the bedroom instead of just in the bathroom for pytting on make up etc when the shower is occupied, and a dish cloth would have been useful for washing up plates at the kitchenette. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if we were to return to Oxford. 5 stars :)

I visited the Ethos hotel just before Christmas with my partner having booked 3 months prior and being told, when i phoned 2 days prior to our arrival that we had been double booked and there was no availability!

Honestly the hotel was pleasant. We stayed in the Loft Suite which i would imagine is a little better than some of the other rooms. The hotel is in good proximity of the towncentre and the area is nice and quiet.

There are issues with parking but you can park on the road about a 7 minute walk away.

The trouble with the Ethos hotel is in the running of it. They outsource all their calls to a call centre. Its impossible to get through and actually speak to someone and if anyone does return your call, dont expect it to be anytime soon. the booking system is ineffective (hence the double booking) and there is absolutely no regard for after sales support.

We left our expensive iron at the hotel and dispite leaving numerous messages to try and retrieve it, we recieved no response. Very dissappointing!

Thank goodness we didnt leave anything of sentimental value. no doubt it would appear on ebay a few days later!!

Its a shame because our stay was actually ok. What a let down!!

Room Tip: The loft Suite is nice but so overpriced if you cant get a discount!
