“Excellent tour, we loved every minute of it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

The tour & tasting were part of a birthday present, and I can honestly say it was one of the best presents I have ever received. We had an insightful presntation which certainly changed my percpetion of both the wine/brewing industry AND the fantastic quality of English wine produced at Luxters. We had an overnight stay in the B&B onsight, and nothing was too much trouble, we even got a lift to the local pub - which was well beyond the 'call of duty'. The room was clean and comfortable - just the right place to rest up after the wine, ale and liquer tastings! - and the breakfast was delicious.

Every member of staff we met were courteous, helpful and above all, professional. I wish them continued success and would highly recommend the tour, their award winning produce and their excellent accomodation to anyone. Go and visit them - you won't regret it!

Loved the produce and the tour given by a very entertaining chap. Staying at the B&B on site would be advisable if you wanted to savour more of the produce!

“It's not just about beer”

A very pleasant visit on Friday to the brewerey & winery. The ambiance was good, the trip around the site informative, and the smaples very good. There are some excellent gift opportunities to be had and we solved some of our Christmas shopping issues right there and then.

“Amusing, informative and tasty two hour tour- but book in advance!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

We received vouchers for a tour of the Chiltern Valley winery as a gift. The tours are very popular and we were unable to get a place on our chosen dates so had to wait a while before we could find a suitable time to visit. Thus if visiting on a certain date is important to you book well in advance as numbers for each tour are limited.
The winery itself is well off the beaten track down country lanes - whilst this adds to its charm in one repect, can I recommend you give yourself plenty of time to find the place. The surrounding roads are very narrow (sometimes just room for one car with the occasional passing place), twisty and hilly - they are not roads you would wish to travel quickly on for fear of colliding with oncoming traffic around a blind bend. Even with Sat-Nav if you accidently take the wrong turning (as we did) you may have to travel some way before you have the opportunity to turn around.
On arrival there is a reasonably sized free car park very near to the shop where the tour begins. The shop is, as one might have expected, stocked with the various wines, beers and liqueurs that are produced on site, plus locally produced pickles, preserves etc. If you arrive early one can buy coffee and biscuits but there isn't on on-site cafe as such. (Toilets are in the nearby barn).
Chiltern Valley Winery is a small family owned business and one's tour is led by someone who is actively involved in the production of the drinks (in our case it was Rico). After a 5 minute video that explained the wine making/brewing process we visited the micro brewery (this was less than a minute's walk away and down about 5 steps). Rico told us about the brewing process in a jovial but informative manner. Next we went up the steps to see the wine press followed by a visit to the bottling and labelling room - everything is close by so there is very little walking involved (you do not go outside to see the actual vines). It was then back to the shop for a tasting session - I think I tried about 5 different wines, 2 beers and 2 liqueurs. I enjoyed the way Rico presented the wines in a studied but very unpretentious, amusing manner. As one might expect people vary widely in their tastes so some liked some products more than others. Rico said at the end of the day a good wine isn't necessarily about price, label, where it comes from or how it can be described in a fancy manner etc. but whether you personally enjoy drinking it (and this can vary with time and place). Incidentally, all the wines made on site are vegetarian if this is of importance to you. Once the tastings are over one could purchase items from the shop for a small discount but there was no hard-sell, one wouldn't be embarrassed to leave the shop empty handed. Incidentally, one can visit the shop just to buy wines etc. but check opening times in advance.
In all the tour takes about two hours and you are standing all the time, I couldn't see any seats anywhere - so if you need frequent rests this would not be a good trip to go on. Obviously, because alcoholic drinks are included in the price, this is an adult tour, there is nothing to entertain children whilst you taste the products.
Overall, we enjoyed our tour and recommend it for others who enjoy wine or beer.

“Choose a driver”

Purchased a voucher for my partner to do the tour. It was very good and he enjoyed tasting all the different wines & Beers. If you cant stand for too long the tour is not for you as you do have to stand for 2 hours. As there was a wedding taking place we did not get to see the beer brewery side of the tour.We were very glad we went though.
