We stayed here for two (expensive) nights during Henley regatta and the position of the hotel by the river and Henley bridge is excellent. We had a room at the front and it was noisy - especially with party central, the Angel, across the road but we could cope with that as everyone was intent on having a good time during this annual occasion. We parked in the hotel courtyard to the rear of the building and were helped to the room with our luggage by a nice young man we never saw again. The bathroom needed a good scrub (total refurbishment would be preferable) , the vent was taped up and full of fluff, we were supplied with three bath towels with no hand towels, bath mat or flannels. The carpet in the bedroom was stained, the dust on top of the wardrobe was thick, three thin pillows were provided on the uncomfortable bed - it was shabby.
The main areas of the hotel looked sad and neglected. Dirty glasses remained in the bar area overnight and on the tables in the courtyard. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food - breakfast was extra so we popped round to the nearby Cafe Rouge which was excellent and cheaper than we would have had to pay.
This could be a very good hotel and Henley deserves better than this as it is a lovely place and we would definitely go back but not to stay at the Red Lion.

We were attending Henley Regatta , and this seemed an ideal central location. I expected pricing to be a the mid to top end due to event and location.

We booked 3 weeks prior on a no cancelation basis for £265 excluding breakfast , (as my reviews goes on you may wonder what is included !) .

The location may be central but car parking is non existent , we park at the station car park about 5 minutes walk away.

We did not check in until 1020pm, and was looking forward a drink and a sandwich, as we had been on our feet since 2PM.

we were informed by the hotel Komendant that the restaurant was closed, (hours stated 1030 pm), whilst we were feeling hungry, we did not mind as the literature being displayed stated a wide selection of bar and room snacks were available.

Carried suitcase up the 4 flights of stairs , unpacked and then rang reception to organise a snack to have in the bar and unwind , after being on hold for 3 minutes , the hotel staff took great delight in informing me that there were crisps and peanuts averrable in the bar.

( in faulty towers episode waldorf salad even basil offered cheese or ham sandwiches )

on my trip back from carpark with suitcase i recalled there was a local independent connivence store, so a quick trip to there for a sliced wholemeal loaf and sone sliced gouda was the answer !

Room

the bathroom needed an industrial scale clean, the air vent looked like an extra from a horror film !!

Not sure what the answer is here as its a very central location and the owners get away with it

left next morning reception made on enquiry regarding our thoughts on our stay

Room Tip: go and stay at holiday in in marlow and take a taxi !

Room 404 smelt of Damp. 1 Pillow each and thin summer weight Duvet on a freezing cold night. Slept in my Dressing Gown! The room was so tiny either side of the bed and there is a weird cloth on the ceiling over the bed covering a skylight, this is hanging down and attached with Tape. No bath mat and no Flannel. Carpet is dirty and wall paper peeling in corners. Dire for £110 for the night.
Breakfast is cheerless and uninteresting this was served in a small side room , no utensils for Hot trays and very limited poor service.
Registered my complaints on leaving and needless to say I will not be staying here again or recommending to anyone.
