We had lunch in this pub yesterday, on our walk by the lovely towpath to Henley-on-Thames. There were 4 of us in our party. We had tried to reserve a table, but were told no reservations were taken, then on our arrival, a table by the window had 'Reserved' on it!!
For my main course I had cottage pie, which was clearly pre-frozon, as the centre was still cold, and the potato was reconstituted, and not fresh. Honestly! How difficult is it to make cottage pie??? The others in our party had partridge and the steak and kidney pie. The partridge was deemed to be "So-so" and the steak and kidney pudding got the thumbs up.
The puddings, however were very good. I had apple crumble with ice-cream, and the others had treacle pudding. All dishes got our seal of approval!
The thing about this pub is that whilst the fare is quite average, the prices are fairly high, with main courses selling for roughly £10. Paying that for my awful main course made me a little cross to say the least!
