We stopped here for supper during the arts festival. We ate in the bar and the staff were pleasant and efficient although the white wine was served warm so I had to ask for some ice. Ordered sea bass fillets with crushed new potatoes and green beans in sauce and pork with saute potatoes and curly kale. Overall the food was very tasty, however I only had one fillet of fish, about 3 new potatoes and 6 green beans. My husband commented that his pork was delicious but again, he only had about 4 potatoes and a tablespoon of kale. For around £15 / £16 a head we were disappointed and still hungry when we left the pub, heading for the nearest chippy to fill up on carbo....!! When veg is the cheapest part of the meal, why skimp on the portion sizes? We didn't leave a tip because of this, which didn't seem to go down to well with the bar staff.

This pub has a great terrace by the river, although it's a bit tight getting between the tables! The menu is displayed on a big board on the terrace so can be a bit difficult to read if it's busy (can imagine this place is heaving in the summer) and there are people sat in front of it. We had fish and chips, skinny chips (bah!) but a lovely large piece of crispy battered fish and a decent tartare sauce, really good plate of food. Yes it was £11.50 but you're in Henley, where nothing is cheap! For us it was worth it, lovely setting and a few pints, couldn't have asked for more.

As an aside, yes the toilets off the terrace weren't great but they get a lot of traffic, you can always use the ones upstairs.

I only had a sandwich and a glass of wine, but I still have to recommend this pub. It is at a vantage point right next to Henley Bridge and overlooks the Thames. The interior is very tastefully restored with a fresh and clean appearance but still retaining the cosy atmosphere of an old country pub. It is a real pleasure sitting there. Service downstairs is quick and friendly and leaves nothing to be desired. There is also an a-la-carte restaurant upstairs and pic nick style tables outside right on the river. I loved this pub. It is a bit pricey but it is worth it for the experience. Enjoy!

I would not normally write a review about an everyday lunch experience but feel compelled to by some of the negative reviews about the food I have seen here. We ate lunch here twice during a recent weekend stay in Henley. On each occasion we simply wanted a light meal, first time we had only a starter each and on the second occasion one starter and one main. Each dish was quickly served by very pleasant and competent staff and we enjoyed them thoroughly. It is expensive for what it was but try finding somewhere in Henley that is not expensive for what you get. If you want well presented tasty pub food then give this place a try. The beer is good too!
