Description: A 17th century pub brought back to life with contempary lighting and soft furnishings that bring out the beauty of the original Oxford stone. The front bar holds the key to your welcome with a fully functional wood burner, the stable room restaurant, an original stable with its wooden rafters help you relax and enjoy the Great British menu on offer alongside the fine ales and extensive wine list. The warm welcome by the staff make this a perfect destination for drinks, a quick meal or an excuse to sit and dine in the cosy atmosphere with friends and family

This pub is somewhat grubby, allows dogs to wander around off their leads, and most of the staff are quite rude. The only good thing about it is that it is one of only two pubs I know of in Chipping Norton that regularly show football matches. The food is not consistent - sometimes it is good, other times it is awful. There are much nicer places in close proximity to visit.

This is a lovely pub. It is nice change to find a pub that has genuine character and atmosphere as opposed to a caricature of a 'British' pub (typewriters hanging frm the ceiling and cheap Chinese reproductions of horse brasses on the wall), which has been so often the case during this tour to the UK. This is not a pub decked out for the tourist market; it is a pub serving local people, which is evident from the good service, good food and great atmosphere. The fact that dogs are able to join their owners in the bar area of the pub really shows that this is a pub for the local populace.

This pub offers something that cannot be cheaply imitated, which is the sense of community and friendliness of a pub that wants to attract local custom.

Go to this pub if you want to be served with good food, good staff service and have an enjoyable evening in a very nice town.

On my first ever visit to Chipping Norton we had the misfortune to visit the Kings Arms Hotel first where we were treated rudely, so it was a relief to walk into the Blue Boar...within 5 seconds I knew we were in good hands. Caring attentive staff, a mouth watering and good value menu, and a lovely variety of tables from the bar, to the garden room to the restaurant which resembles a medieval long gallery complete with pretty lights on the beams!

The service was second to none and the food mouth wateringly good. Despite a mistake - my sister and I both asked for the pea & mint frittata starter to be made into a main course with new potatoes - this was misunderstood in the kitchen and to make up for it our server (King Stephen III!!) gave us extra frittata but only charged us for a starter. All in all we had a wonderful afternoon and would definitely return given the chance.

The atmosphere was definitely warm and friendly, the food was the best I have eaten in ages and the day was bright and sunny with lots of activity in town. I am planning to go back and try out the shopping.
