“Just love this Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

We have stayed here several times, usually on a 3-night stay. If you like comfort, log fires in Winter, lovely rooms, good food, pretty gardens in summer-time, you should be very happy here. It is dog friendly and although the bedrooms which accommodate dogs are not the best ones, they are still charming. The formal dining room can be a little cold in Winter, so take a wrap. The two lounges have fires, sink-into armchairs, tables which you can eat at if you choose (then your dog can be with you) and there is also a bar where you can also eat from the bar menu. The staff are efficient and friendly. The ambiance is of an olde-worlde country inn and Burford itself is a charming little town. There are plenty of walks in the vicinity and, of course, the whole of the rest of the Cotswolds to go at. It's a wonderful mixture of comfort and class.

Room Tip: Each room is different. Perhaps you should ask the receptionist for what you want when booking?

We stayed for 3 nights at The Lamb Inn. This was our second visit, the first being 2 years ago. The room was sumptuous, the food was gorgeous, the service was exceptional, the atmosphere was like an oasis of serene comfort........an antidote to the pressures of modern life. Put simply, this place is without doubt my favourite location for a luxury break. Go there and see for yourselves. I am confident that you will be utterly pampered.

Room Tip: For ultra luxury, try ALLIUM. True decadence is watching the six nations from the comfort of a deep...

The Lamb Inn is the fourth establishment we have stayed in belonging to Cotswold Inns and Hotels, and once again we were not disappointed - the high standards we have found in all the other establishments were more than met. The staff were all absolutely charming, right from the minute we walked through the door, and the welcoming lounge and bar with numerous log fires was perfect for a horrible rainy day! Our room (Malt) was beautiful and warm with a huge half-tester bed, creaky floors and lovely antique furniture. (Great flapjack too!). On the first night we ate in the bar and the food was delicious and the second night we ate in the restaurant, where the food was amazing! Breakfast was also excellent - freshly squeezed fruit juices, good selection of cereals and fruit etc, plus a great selection of hot options and everything was freshly cooked and of excellent quality. We really felt at home and would have loved to have stayed longer!! The service was second to none and all the staff were so friendly and chatty. There is only one thing which we were a bit disappointed in and that was the bathroom - it definitely felt as if it is time for a bit shower/bath upgrading. But that said we had a wonderful two nights and it is our aim to stay in all the hotels in the group!

Room Tip: Didn't see any of the other rooms but would definitely recommend Malt. Even though it looks out...

I have been coming to the Lamb for my birthday for about 35 years, It is such a wonderful, atmospheric hotel and I love the way it has been gently modernised without losing any character.
The Slovak and Hungarian staff are an absolute delight. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. And Burford itself is such a pleasure to walk around.

Room Tip: We went for the Allium this time. Well worth the extra.

Cotswold Inns and Hotels have owned the Lamb for a few months short of a decade. There is a genuine love for the property which has seen the hotel maintained with respect and gently nurtured with subtle improvements. I am delighted to read of your appreciation of this over the years. Many thanks and I look forward to seeing you again.

Wanting to book somewhere special as a surprise for my wife on her birthday, knowing she loves Burford, I plumped for The Lamb Inn. On calling, Liz answered the phone and was brilliant in helping me book, really helpful and informative.
On our arrival we were greeted very warmly by the assistant manager, (the manager was on holiday) David Nutt, who helped us with our bags. We were made to feel very welcome and at home. We stayed in the Allium Room which was quite simply superb. A large bright room with a huge bed, flat screen TV and a vast bathroom with roll top bath, walk in shower and another flat screen TV with surround sound. Molton Brown shampoo and shower. Lovely views. Absolute luxury!
We enjoyed sitting by one of the many fires in the bar area during the afternoon, with a glass or two of wine and a couple of pints of real ale, fab.
In the evening we had the most delicious three course meal, the service and food was superb in the delightful restaurant. Breakfast was also excellent, freshly squeezed juices and the cooked breakfast delicious, loved the Eggs Benedict.
This is a really comfortable, cosy and traditional English pub. A delight to stay in. Cannot recommend highly enough, you have to stay!

The most impressive thing of all is the service. The staff are genuinely so kind and extremely attentive. We really could not fault our stay here and cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: The Allium room is superb. Other rooms looked lovely too.

I have given this 5 stars, not because it's a 5 star hotel (it's hundreds of years old and would be ruined if they tried to make it a 5-star hotel), but because we had a wonderful stay here that really could not be faulted. It's dog-friendly (there's a ten pound charge, but that's quite often the case) and the 'dog friendliness' extends to bowls of water and treats for your pet. They even laid out breakfast for us in the bar area so our dog could join us. The breakfast is worthy of a bigger mention that some of the other reviews give it, because it's excellent and includes fresh squeezed orange juice (which is one of my measures of a good hotel breakfast). The room was charming and the bed extremely comfortable. My only niggle, but it's a very minor one, is that there were too many little signs around the room - the the usual 'no smoking' ones (fair enough) to others offering toiletries for sale etc. This is only a small blemish on an otherwise great stay. We didn't dine here, but we did take late night drinks, by a roaring log fire, which was great. What stood out for us most was the service - it's a cliche, I know, but they couldn't do enough for us. Very impressive, especially as British hospitality doesn't always achieve this! It's clearly a really well run hotel and we will definitely return for another stay.

I have asked all of our team to read this and it has had a very motivational impact. As much as it is a cliché our staff’s basic approach to guests and their needs is something we work very hard on. Genuinely, if we can do it we will. I hope that next time you visit us at the Lamb we will be able to cater for you through an evening meal and therein further impress!

A lovely old English Inn. Small but comfortable room and bathroom with good shower. Ok for a short stay but probably look elsewhere if staying longer. The Lamb has the friendliest and helpful staff I have ever come across. Only street parking might cause a minor problem at times. The bubbly manager's wife does a stint in the evening restaurant. The manager introduced himself when serving the toast at breakfast!
Food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner excellent, except for the odd hiccup.

I am very pleased to read of your visit and the enjoyment you had. I recall talking with you. I like it when I can relate a review directly to guests. My wife was very pleased to be noted and I hope you will visit us again, possibly in one of our superior rooms. These are more spacious rooms and for a touch of extravagance we have Shepherd and Allium, our largest most senior bedrooms. Thank you.
