We visit Burford and surrounding area several times a year but we had never been to the Bull before. I was most impressed with the website initially and the tempting menu so we booked dinner for the evening of Thursday 3 January. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owners who were friendly and accommodating and we had pre-dinner drinks in the cosy bar area. The restaurant has character, was warm and there aren't many places these days that have lovely starched table linen which is a plus for me! Dinner was lovely and well paced - we had scallops on celeriac with crispy shallot rings, then I had gilthead bream with delicious new potatoes and salad whilst my partner had succulent venison with red cabbage, a pastry tartlet and chestnuts. The homemade bread selection was delicious as was the homemade icecream (particularly the liquorice) and sorbets We would have loved to have been able to fit in a cheese course, but were too full on this occasion. We will definitely be revisiting soon and will most probably also book to stay in the hotel as the welcome, service and food were excellent.
