What a lovely hotel. Just up the road from the high street, with car park and lovely and quiet. It has a delightful garden with deck chairs for finishing off the last rays of the sun. You can sit out on the terrace for food from the bar menu.
We arrived around 1pm and while waiting for our room to be ready had a lovely lunch on the terrace leading down to the garden. The ploughmans included cheeses, ham and pork as well as two delicious home made chutneys. The chips were lovely too.
As we had a dog we had a garden room, which was very clean, light and airy, and looked out onto the garden. Comfortable king size bed. Although it was hot when we stayed the room wasn't hot as you could open double doors/windows, so we had a good nights sleep. Two comfortable chairs placed with a small table made looking out onto the garden very relaxing. The entry to the garden to take the dog onto the terrace is just a couple of yards away. The garden rooms also allows you to take the dog out without having to go through the hotel as direct access to car park etc.
Dogs are also allowed in the bar if the weather is too chilly to eat outside. They are just not allowed in the restaurant.
Fresh milk was provided upon request, with no delay. The selection of teas in the room very good and plentiful, as well as coffee, milk etc.
The food on the restaurant menu was not ordinary and if you were looking for simple steak etc you may be better eating at the lamb next door, although it looked hot in there as we took the dog for a walk past it. The food though was well cooked at the Bay Tree and I heard other diners say how delicious the food was too. The staff were very accommodating regarding the food as my husband can only eat certain foods. Desserts were also good selection.
Breakfast was wonderfully. We did need to be away prompt as we had a function to attend on the Saturday, but were served immediately with toast and tea and my full English breakfast order taken quickly. After eating the scrummy fruits and freshly squeezed juice a lovely hot breakfast was served. Cereal and freshly cooked pastries also available.
The road outside leads onto a country lane with path and grass sides, so makes a good short walk for the dog with poo bins close by.
All the staff were always very polite and helpful and a credit to the hotel.
We would stay again if in the area.
