“Great service and location”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Chose this hotel for a night away. We have driven through Burford before but not stayed.

Burford .. nice place to wander ..some great local pubs .. sat on hight street and watched comings and goings... Lots of nice restaurants and pubs with food. We went to Spice Lounge for indian food ..excellent and the waiter recommended a fantastic dish that wasn't on the menu!

So the Gateway Hotel .. clean.. good room. We chose this hotel has has lots of parking which is challenge at some other places. Great breakfast with really good quality ingredients.
Service was great throughout. On checkout the man recommended an amazing organic farm shop to visit.

The room was at the front of the hotel so was noisy .. but had double glazing so quiet when shut but it was too hot to not open windows. So didn't have great night's sleep .. but that is not the hotel's fault!

Recommend this place!

Room Tip: Maybe ask for room at rear of hotel to be quieter

While holidaying in Burford we found some of the local pubs somewhat unaccommodating if you want to eat after 7pm, plus their meals a little less appetising, but not at the Gateway Hotel. Their food and service is second to none in the area which probably explains why all the locals go there and why they are always busy. The first night we dinned here we hadn't booked but despite it being late and full they still took us in and gave us a fantastic meal.

I have stayed in the Cotswold Gateway Hotel every year since 2005 to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford. The fact I keep returning here says a great deal about this place which I would commend to anyone needing accomodation in the area. It is a family run hotel offering comfortable and well appointed overnight accomodation in very nice rooms with en suite facilities more than commensurate with other 3 star hotels. The restaurant and bar menus make use of locally sourced produce and the quality of the product is superb with geerous portions very well cooked and well presented. There is a good range of bar drinks and a varied wine list with a nice selection of wines from around the world. The prices are good value whilst reflecting this very high standard and compared with other local eateries the Cotswold Gateway is top notch.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and go out of their way to be helpful. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Friday evening, after a long week at work, we forgot to think about food until late. We were declined from 2 eating places in Burford because it was past 8.30pm and by chance, we went into the Cotswols Gateway. We enquired about food, and to our surprise, they were more than accommodating even though they were VERY busy. We were advised to order promptly before a 9.00pm party arrived so we wouldn't have to wait until they were served. We ordered sirloin steak which was just perfect in every way. The best steak in the area.
Fantastic friendly service by staff who were 'pleased to see you' and didn't make you feel like an inconvenience.

We have been staying here on & off for 20 years.

It's always perfect, brilliant food & hospitality...

Rooms are a little small but with so much to do we weren't in there a lot!

We arranged a late check out at the last minute & it wasn't a problem, the manager came to find me to let me know it Was ok & THERE WAS NO CHARGE.

WE HAVE NEVER HAD A LATE CHECK OUT CHARGE - EVER!

Nice menu with some good variations. Lovely food, nicely done, accompanied by a good selection of vegetables. We ate in the bar which was great, with lots of traditional features. Just on the outskirts of Burford, in fabulous surroundings.
