Stopped here for one night to break up a long journey. Based on a warning from a previous reviewer regarding possible noise from creaky floorboards, we decided to stay in the annex. The room was quite small but this reflected in the very reasonable price and since we weren't going to be spending much time in it, it was perfectly adequate.
The bar and lounge area have a nice cosy feel - reasonable range of beers and an acceptable selection of wines at sensible prices. Tried two different Chenin Blancs - both exhibited a good depth of flavour.
We ate in the main restaurant and both thought the food was ok rather than exceptional. Smoked salmon starter was fine but the stilton baked mushrooms were sadly lacking in any flavour. Conversely, the Moroccan Pork Ras el Hanout had bags of spicy flavour but the pork was so tough it was difficult to cut. Not sure the meat was actually cooked in the sauce? Steak burger proved ok and offered optional toppings - probably a safer bet for future visits. Folowing monring, breakfast has a good selection of hot/cold food served buffet style - not the best cooked breakfast we've had but it was included in the price so happy to accept it it.
So, would we stay here again - probably yes. The staff are nice & friendly, it's clean and many of the public areas have a lot of character. Decent size carpark adjacent to the hotel and it's proximity to the A40 make it a useful stopover.

We have stayed many times for just one night whilst travelling across the country. It is always a relaxed, comfortable break with really friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms, sometimes large, sometimes on the small side but are always spotlessly clean and more than adequate. There is an extensive menu to please all tastes with interesting "specials". Like the hotel, the car park is excellent.

Room Tip: Choose a room, if possible, away from the main road because of the noise but if you keep the window closed it does not notice.

The cottwold gateway is a great place to stay, have stayed here many times while on business and it never disappoints. The owners and staff are all very friendly and professional, you can can see that they all have a real pride in the place. The food is very good and the rooms are always very clean. I have recommend this hotel to friends.

I enquired directly by email with hotel since I could not find an online direct booking facility, without using agencies. Contacted immediately by hotel who gave a rundown on rooms and choices.
Very welcoming from all staff.
Room was large airy and clean. There was an additional single bed, so that the room could double as a family room. Furnishings a little dated but unblemished.
Bathroom was tired.
Issue with bathroom fan solved by hotel handyman within minutes.
Good basic meal selection which is common to the restaurant and bar. Restaurant lacks atmosphere compared with the large welcoming bar area.

Room Tip: Room 7 is a larger room. The excellent double glazing keeps any rush hour noise down to very acceptable levels. Could be more of an issue in high summer if occupents like sleeping with the windows open. Rooms at the back don't have the view but would be a quieter bet in summer.

We stayed 2 nights in September for a family function and were very well looked after. The room was clean, tidy, a little bit on the small side but perfectly adequate for our needs. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and I was able to negotiate a good room rate when I made my telephoned booking.
The first night was badly disrupted by a persistant snorer in an adjacent room; this was not the fault of the hotel and, fortunately, he had checked out by the second night.
Burford is a picturesque town with many interesting pubs and restaurants to visit as well as the wonderful cotswold countryside. The church has a wealth of history and is well worh a visit if you like that kind of thing.
Good breakfast too, included in the overnight room rate, not extre as in some cases.

Room Tip: Call the hotel rather than book on line.
