Description: We are a family run old style Public House/Restaurant, with a great atmosphere, serving good quality home-made food at good value for money. Food is served 7 days a week from 12 - 8pm (9pm Friday and Saturday). There is a large children's play area, good car parking, wheelchair access and disabled toilet. Dogs are welcome in our snug bar.

We have previously attended for an evening meal in 2011 and had a wonderful evening. Unfortunately since then the staff seemed to have changed and when we attended again were met with a take it or leave it attitude from the wedding co-ordinator, who when asked if we could speak to the manager were told there was not one.
What a shame for a once excellent and enjoyable experience, now turned sour.

Having read the older reviews I was dubious about visiting but felt it was worth a try as it honoured Tastecard. My first visit was at lunchtime with a friend....on entering the grounds the sign advertising the expensive tea/coffee at £3each I felt was a bit off putting. This however did not reflect the food prices which were much more reasonable. We relaxed in comfortable chairs in the bar whilst we chatted and had a drink & looked out at the delightful grounds. Then we were led to the table and presented with some delicious crusty bread drizzled with olive oil and rosemary free gratis. We both chose Lamb Shank followed by creme brulee & coffee... all of which was delicious.
The second visit was in the evening with a group of friends. We had a table in a room upstairs & 4 of us chose Pheasant & 2 chose Salmon. We had a couple of dishes of veg and 1 of potatoes which was ample for the 6 of us. This meal was again preceded by a complementary plate of tasty nibbles ie salmon & cavier... a very welcome suprise.
Coffee was a disappointment as the coffee machine was not working and although they brought us a tray of coffee FOC it was not brilliant.
The decor is dated and a bit scuffy but this certainly does not reflect the standard of the food and the excellent service. I also think they aught to review the drink prices or offer FOC top ups at £3 a cup. Saying this I will definately visit again.

Excellent food, service and place!
Really nice experience, the food was superb, and the staff were excellent. Its a ncie place to visit, a little different from a typical restaurant, so worth a visit. All the food was excellent, and the staff and service were superb.... Plus the prices are pretty reasonable too... give it a try.

I visited with my family for an afternoon meal. The surroundings are beautiful and the house gorgeous. The food was good. However, we found the drinks very expensive. We paid over £10 for a small glass of wine and a pint of standard lager. This rather spoilt the occasion as we had to limit our drinks. We expected a significant mark up due to the location but we have visited my places of this standard and felt we were over charged. The serving staff were friendly but the management came across as snooty and unhelpful. Stood at the bar, we felt as if we were in the way!

Stunning country house with vintage interior. Ideal setting for a wedding! Had a groupon voucher deal for two people with canapés, fruit punch, three course meal and a bottle of wine all for £40! Absolute bargain! Can't fault the food, staff were on the ball, we were not over-crowded in the dining room so felt like we had privacy all evening! Can't recommend it highly enough! Will definitely return!
