The Jacobean House was rather disappointing - its mainly set up for school trips rather than a wider adult audience. The park and grounds are extensive, a good place for a walk on a nice day and a great amenity for the city.
There is also an industrial museum that could be easily overlooked and has a modest entrance charge but is a real gem. This has an extensive collection of steam engines that are 'in steam' once a month only. We were fortunate enough to be there on one of those days and it was a wonderful experience - please check the website and go!! It is run entirely by volunteers.
