This pub is at the bottom of the castle and is all old world inside, with the uneven rock as the walls and various nooks and crannie you can go in to sit and have a drink. Lots of ales on tap, but also the normal drinks. One room has an old fashioned game you can play. It also has a beer garden area and is lovely in the summer. We have been several times, at different times of day, and it was always busy with a lovely, lively atmosphere. would definitely recommend - it is worth the short walk from town, and then back up the hill after! I would love if this were my local.

I visited the pub upon recommendation from friends who visited earlier in the year. The pub was quiet. I asked on some history on the pub and the member of staffed snapped at me and said if we wanted to know the history we would have to book a cellar tour......which you pay for. Overpriced and rubbish service. We left the drinks as the beer was poor. Not to recommend.

If you like history then you must not miss calling in at one of the oldest pubs in England. The pilgrims stopped here on their way to Jerusalem. The pub is built into the walls of Nottingham Castle and is a step back in time. The beer is good and the atmosphere is perfect.

Lovely history of the oldest pub in england carved into the limestone of Nottingham Castle . Nice warm cosy feeling in winter and nice outdoor seating in summer .

As a local to Nottingham I use this pub and meet friends here but just recently the service has gone down, the prices have gone up and it survives on its reputation only.
