We stayed at the Best Western, Nottingham Westminster on the 20th September 2012.
Our first impressions were fine. The entrance area was well presented and the Reception staff polite. As Best Western loyalty card holders we requested and were given a complimentary room upgrade to a more spacious double room.
I have to say that the room size was very impressive. It was also clean and tidy with air conditioning (not that we needed it on a cold September night). The bathroom was fine, the shower was a walk-in cubicle and there was also a bath. The only minor criticism was that the toilet was quite tight in to the corner of the bathroom and felt a bit of a squeeze to use. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Wi-fi was available but it was hit and miss and when we could get it it was very slow. An upgrade to the routers is needed perhaps as there were plenty of working routers on show throughout the hotel and there shouldn't have been a problem. Maybe our room on the top floor was just out of range.
We ate out that night so didn't get to use the restaurant for dinner but come breakfast we were relieved that we hadn't. The breakfast was quite simply one of the worst we have ever had! We are used to self-service breakfasts and have no problems generally, but we found the bacon and the fried eggs swimming in fat, the mushrooms tasted as if they were approaching their use-by date and the whole thing seemed like a congealed mess. We couldn't eat it and settled for toast instead. If I were to offer constructive advice, I would say that the chef needs to be more aware of the presentation of the food being served, particularly in the amount of fat being left in the hotplates. A small problem, easily rectified, that would help the reputation of the hotel enormously and would probably have allowed us to give a 4 rating instead of a 3.
We left feeling a little cheated and not sure whether we would go back if we were staying in Nottingham again. This wasn't one of the best Best Westerns we have stayed in.
