Owner description: Based in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, the National Justice Museum is housed in Nottinghamshire’s Grade 2 listed old Shire Hall and County Gaol. The Museum uses original Courtrooms, dungeons and prison cells, along with a number of more contemporary galleries to exhibit collections relating to justice, the law, crime and punishment in a fun and interactive way. When visiting the museum you may also meet a variety of colourful historical characters with different stories of justice to tell.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

I visited with 4 children aged between 13 and 17. We all enjoyed the museum and would recommend a visit. We especially enjoyed the start of the tour which involved us in experiencing criminal justice as it was (or more correctly, was not!) in the past. We all agreed that this part of the tour could have been further exploited. Towards the end of the tour we wandered around freely and soaked up the atmosphere of the venue. It was quite eerie - especially when l entered a dark cell and my son jumped out on me! We stayed much longer than our allotted time which did not cause any difficulty - we also spent some time in the old Court room taking photos of ourselves in the Judge's wig which was fun! Staff were very helpful. Would visit again.

“fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2014

great but make sure you plan for a full day, there is lots to see and do, but don't miss the second part which is the police museum. it is fascinating. Its lots of fun and there is actors playing characters from the old goal and the court. it's not suitable for those unsteady on their feet, because the building is so old the floors are uneven. children will love it, and soooo will the adults. it's well worth a visit.
