Started out bad-main door and one lift out. No stairs to other floors... Carpet in hall is shoddy and general decor is poor and damaged. Room was tiny, poorly filled in holes in wall, damage to dated furniture and aircon was so loud I thought it was static on the old style crt tv! Duly moved to a different room with same issues. Full refund given n left. Yes its cheap but it needs shutting, re decorating n fixing...

Just returned from spending Christmas at the Britannia. We went there last year for Christmas and as we had enjoyed it thought we would give it another try. The hotel is starting to look very tired now and is need of some dire refurbishment. There was only one lift in working order (this was the case last year as well) which was a bit of a problem for many of the guests who were on the high floors but as we were on the 2nd floor it wasn't too much trouble for us to use the stairs. The food was very good - buffet style - apart from Christmas day lunch which was silver service. There was plenty to choose from and nice hot plates as well. The bedrooms are nice and spacious but do need a refurb. There was plenty of tea/coffee etc., in your room and also plenty left in the corridors for you to help yourself should you run out. The staff at the Britannia are all very polite and helpful and willing to please. There was good entertainment every evening.
I would recommend this hotel for a reasonably priced Christmas venue if you don't mind "shabby chic".

Room Tip: ask for a low floor if the lifts are not working

I booked this hotel because the price was reasonable, but on arrival I found the member of staff on reception very cool and unfriendly. The whole place is in need of a 'good scrub', and the carpets in the corridors were all stained and dirty. So overall it is very shabby, but the room was relatively clean but it did smell a little. I would recommend staying at another of the many budget hotels in Nottingham and use this as a last resort.

In case you're driving it's NCP car park.
I expect this hotel was cutting edge in the 80's but now it's like being at your Grans. If you're looking for a budget hotel I'd suggest you go for an e-tap or premier Inn as this place was more like a European Hostel than a UK hotel.
Booked evening meal and breakfast with the room and after checking in at 7:30 ish went to the restaurant for 8 only to be told it had closed. Not that the food looked anything but awful, the menu looked a step further down than Weatherspoons.
Ordered teas and coffee on arrival, something that you can't really get wrong but this was literally the worst I've EVER had. The coffee machine had been fitted 2 days ago but nobody had tried to turn it on... I don't under this place, it has all the potential to be a great hotel, location, size etc but fails at every step.
Breakfast wasn't too bad however, but it's not hard to get a cooked breakfast right!
Needs a desperate refurbishment. I wouldn't come back.

Good and bad points about this hotel. The rooms were tatty and need updated but were clean enough and the sheets and towels were clean. Breakfast was good, freshly cooked buffet. Dinner was another buffet but was a bit hit and miss. Staff were all helpful if a bit overworked. The lifts were a lottery, might work might not. We were on the 7th floor so had to carry our bags down 7 flights. Overall is ok for a budget hotel just don't expect the Ritz.

I stayed at Britannia Hotel in Nottingham on a National Holidays break, last weekend.Large hotel. My 83 year old friend was on the 9th floor,I was on the 1st. Only one lift working when we arrived. On the first night neither lift was working! Eventually my friend was taken to a service lift to get to her room. She was kept awake half of the night by repair workers directly above her.The next day, when we all had to get cases down, once again only one lift was working, causing chaos. The hotel was very cold and we were told the heating is not on till 7pm.! Even then, the place was still cold.Room was basic but clean, with a view of the multi car park opposite.it had been described as being 'next to Nottingham Castle'. Staff in the dining room were polite and Bernice was especially helpful. However,we were charged two different amounts for tonic at the bar and the barman quite rude..The food was reasonable, but not very warm. The signage in the building is extremely poor. I have stayed at a few Britannia Hotelswith National Holidays and all are in need of upgrades, but this one is the worst so far.
