Owner description: A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

“When is a castle not a castle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

I have not met anyone yet who doesn't feel let down after a visit to Nottingham Castle, forget the Robin Hood towering Norman construction your mind conjurs up and think along the lines of a grand house and you will not be far off.
Having said that the place is still worth a visit, even though some of the most interesting areas are no longer accessible.
Gardens are pleasent enough and the museum ok.

“It's not a castle”

If you're expecting something resembling the castles in the Robin Hood films then you'll be sorely disappointed.............it's just a big house!

“Beautiful place in Autumn, Museum not so interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

It was beautiful to see the colors of autumn in the grounds surrounding the castle, and I understand why people would want to hold their weddings there. The art museum and galleries were rather mediocre in my opinion, with not a wide selection of exhibits. Luckily, the ticket also gives you free entrance to the Museum of Nottingham Life at the Brewhouse Yard, which I found way more interesting. Just have a quick walk through the Castle, and spend more time outside enjoying nature and spend more time at the Brewhouse Yard museum instead.
