“Centre of Nottingham”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the old George street hotel on boxing night to catch up with some friends in town. We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel seems to have been recently returned to a high spec. The rooms had mod cons like coffee machine and air conditioning. Unfortunately it was so cold that the heating was just about enough to get the room warm but there was no form of hear in the en suite which had very high ceilings and was freezing.
The bar area was lovely although the beers were a bit pricy but they had a nice range of sandwiches and it was ok for a quick drink in the hotel before heading out. It is in the middle of the centre if town so all bars and shops are close at hand but it didn't seem noisy abs the hotel did provide ear plugs for those who might be sensitive to noise.
I would stay there again

Mercure have substantially refurbished and upgraded the former George Hotel. Conforms as you would expect to the Mercure formula, comfortable without being luxurious. My room was small; to share it, especially for more than one night would have been a struggle. It was well equipped with a large LCD TV and a radio with iPhone dock. The bathroom was impeccable. It was at the back of the hotel and on the fourth floor. So the offered earplugs were not needed. One could imagine that the location of the hotel, close to Nottingham's nightlife might mean that rooms on the front and lower down were not so tranquil. The breakfast room was brightly decorated and the quality of the food good

went to this hotel with a group for our xmas meal and disco, the food was terrible,it was just warm no taste what so ever this is the worse meal I have ever tasted the turkey should have been fresh but was turkey roll it was horrible we paid £35 and was not worth it at all,we asked to see the manager who wanted to give us all a free drink but we all refused but they gave us £10 each back which was an insult I think we should have had a full refund I would not recomend this hotel to anyone it was really horrible, they had no beer on draught it was all bottled which was very expensive my sister had a jug of orange juice which cost her £6 and another member of our group was charged £4 jug lemonade and a glass of wine which my friend had was £8.50p.I would not recomend anyone having a meal there.

My husband and I stayed here for one night (a Saturday) on a trip down memory lane to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the train station and is located in Hockley, which is a very short walk into Market Square, Lace Market and Trinity Square. We were greeted warmly by the desk staff who allowed me to leave my case while we went to meet friends as we arrived well before the check in time. Our room was on a high floor (as requested) and was a good size with a large flat screen TV and a comfortable bed.
The shower room was up a few stairs and round a corner and was also well appointed. The shower was lovely!
It was quite noisy from about 11pm on, but nothing too distracting. And the hotel provided a pair of earplugs which blocked out all noise. One small gripe: if two people are staying, could we have two pairs of earplugs please?
Customer service was good at all times during our stay. Again we were allowed to leave the case while we shopped on Sunday. Definitely recommended if you want a well appointed hotel with good service in a very good location in the city.

Room Tip: A high floor keeps you further away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Booked a night at the Mercure for myself and my daughter as we were going to a concert at the Captial FM Arena and wanted a central location. The hotel was perfect for both shopping and going to the Arena as it's in the middle of both and 5 mins walk to each of them. The room was a bit small but immaculately decorated and very clean. The flat screen tv with freeview was perfect for relaxing after a hard's day shopping. The bed was very comfortable my 13 yr said she'd had a perfect nights sleep. We parked in the Fletcher Gate car park which is on the hotel's website it was literally just around the corner from the hotel and you got a discounted price of £11 for 24 hrs. We didn't eat at the hotel but we did visit the hotel bar after the concert which was very relaxing and pleasant. I did read some of the reviews about this hotel regarding noise and I could see the problem with its location however our room was at the back so no noise at all. All in all a perfect weekend, my husband now wants to visit Nottingham and I would stay in this hotel again.

Stayed at this hotel a couple of times during the week and it provides an excellent base and location within the town centre. Rooms are good with a nice modern feel with good bathrooms-even though they can be a bit small, except those on the top floor which have the advantage of being alot quieter. The hotel itself provides a good blend between old and new demonstrating some good character and history throughout. Bar area and breakfast are pretty good and you can even get a good espresso in the morning. Staff are super helpful which means that you are in for a good stay.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor if you can!

Overnight with my work team and wasn't expecting much as it was quite cheap. Lovely building with a stunning staircase running up the middle. My room was cosy and the bed comfortable. Staff very pleasant, even the poor girl who had to run up and down the stairs from the Reception to bar ! Didn't have breakfast but colleague 's really rated it. Ideal for a City center stay.
