Dear ThecheckerNewcastle,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us and for your continued loyalty to the hotel. We are working hard to minimise the disruption caused by the building works at Sainsbury’s and we have been reassured that they will only operate between 8.00am – 6.00pm Monday to Friday. I will ensure that your feedback is passed on to all of the staff. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back soon.
Kind regards

The hotel is not in the city centre. We took a taxi from the train station to the hotel for 5 GBP then asked for the directions to get back to the city centre by feet. Very easy: cross the road, cross the Sainsbury parking, leave the cash machines on your right and take the footpath to the canal, turn right and walk 10 minutes and you are in the centre of Nottingham. So, the location itself should not prevent you from staying there.
The room was very big (2 double beds), tea & coffee facilities, hairdryer in the room, TV. The bathroom is a a bit small and gets hot quite quickly if you take a shower but it's OK. We only missed 2 things that, according to me, should be standard in this class of hôtels: a fridge and a safe (big enough to store a laptop). The doors of the rooms slam quite easily, that's very noisy at night so be careful when coming back late. Breakfast was included in our rate. Continental buffet and hot food buffet, enough choices, attentive staff who were bringing back missing food and drinks quickly. Check-in and check-out: friendly staff, efficient and quick. Last remark, as other travellers already mentioned, wifi is not free. I think that this should also be now part of the standard package - many shops now offer free wifi to their customers, asking guests to pay is becoming less and less acceptable. We did not use the wifi in the hotel as there are plenty places in the city where you wan enjoy wifi for free.
Last info: if taking the bus to East Midlands airport, when leaving the hotel cross the road then turn left, pass the bridge above the canal then at the signal turn right and walk to the 1st bus stop (3 minutes max) - there is the stop of the Link bus to the airport.

Room Tip: Ask a room at the back

Dear norfolkcouple2013,

Thank you for your 5 star review! We work extremely hard to ensure that we maintain high standards across the whole hotel and it’s very comforting to read your feedback. We have recently completed the installation of our upgraded air handling system throughout the hotel so hopefully you’ll see an improvement the next time you visit us. Following your comments regarding the renovations at Sainsbury’s, I arranged a meeting with the site engineer to establish their working hours during the week. They have agreed to operate between the times of 8am-6pm Monday - Friday which we feel will minimise the noise impact on our guests.
I will ensure that your feedback is passed on to all of the staff. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back soon.

Starting with the good, the parking is free and plentiful, the staff are warm and friendly.
But!!! If your booking on the website make sure you scroll fully down to the room rates that include breakfast and if you want it wi-fi. Bit of a shock at check-in to find our rate didn't include breakfast....And at £26 for two a little steep!! No wonder the Beefeater next door are promoting their breakfast's, if there is a next time I think we will give that a try. Didn't bother paying £10 for hotel wi-fi.
This has to be the loudest room air con we have ever experienced....I defy even the heaviest sleeper to sleep with it on the lowest setting. Opening the windows lets in the noisy traffic noise, it is a shame because the bed was really comfortable.

Room Tip: Sleep quality and rooms score reflect my air con comments. Maybe worth asking for room to the rear t...

Dear Darryl E,

Thank you for your feedback. Your review plays a vital role in assisting us to improve our quality and our service levels. We really focus on staff training and development and I’m happy this has come across during your recent stay. We always try to be as competitive on price as possible and as you’ve mentioned there are other options available at the various food outlets surrounding the hotel, however we are confident that we offer a superior breakfast offering compared to our competitors. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused by the air conditioning unit during your stay, I have instructed our maintenance department to investigate as the air conditioning unit should not be generating such a loud noise when on the highest setting.
All of the above points mentioned have been communicated out to the team and action has been taken where necessary.

Once again thank you for taking the time to write your review and I look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards

I would love to say: "what can you expect? It's a holiday Inn" but with the prices as they are I would expect a lot more. i.e. breakfast included and free wi-fi. But alas, we had to pay for internet... that ended up not working... We didn't really need to kick up a fuss to get refunded which was nice, but we would have much rathered internet. As far as hotel facilities go it was nothing greater than average. The rooms were all neat and clean and the en suit bathrooms were stocked with all the appropriate goodies: shampoo, soap, conditioner and moisturiser and shaving kits, mouth hygiene kits as well a few other items could be delivered to your room upon request. The staff were all happy and helpful and kept the bar open late for us and breakfast was served in the morning for disgustingly extortionate prices. But hey, it's in a prime-ish location and given the time of year we were lucky to even find a place to stay.

First let me say the people of this hotel were great. They were friendly and helpful.

However, the daily charge for the internet was ridiculous. Not to mention the internet service was VERY slow, if it worked at all. A bandwidth problem maybe, but I had it turned off after day one.

Also the rooms do NOT have air conditioning as a standard. Maybe it's just me, but I like my room cold/cool to sleep, and even in the UK in the summer it is too warm. AC was an extra charge as well. Gladly paid it, but seems a bit much.

One another positive, the food in the restaurant was superb. Order the Fish Cakes and you won;t be disappointed.

Room Tip: If in the summer, ask for air conditioning.

Stayed here with my girlfriend as a go between our respective work trips a few months ago, room was ok - standard double, location alright if you have a car as it's not directly in the middle of Nottingham but near enough for a short car trip or taxi. I have stayed in some very good Holiday Inn's in major cities in the UK (Bristol, Cardiff to name two of the best) but this one just seemed to lack any character and the rooms very tired looking. Service was good as per usual with Holiday Inn. Used the bar in the evening after a long day at work and the service there was pretty good with a good selection of drinks, snacks etc.
