Stumbled on this restaurant - what a find.

Appearance - Lovely - great inside a true South Indian Feel
Food - Just lovely - great flavors - good portions - different to your normal curries - stand out tastes
Value - Table for four with starters - mains - rice - side dishes - wine and beers £80
Service - Just right - not too attentive - but very pleasant and polite which makes a difference these days
Such a shame we are not local - i can imagine calling in there on a regular basis.
They also have other restaurants in Leicester - Royal Leamington Spa and West Byfleet.

Highly recommended all round.

Visited Kayal on Saturday night for a friend's birthday meal. There were 15 of us in total & I think it's fair to say we all had a great time! I'd been once before (as a party of 4) & enjoyed it but found the food to be extremely hot (spice-wise!). However on this occasssion the heat wasn't so intense, which I preferred - although I'm not unfamiliar with curries, as living in Bradford means we're spolit for choice. :-) Having said that, Kayal, is not your "usual" sort of curry house, as the dishes originate from Southern India, so have a slightly different flavouring - although as equally as delicious. e.g. There are poppadoms but they come with an assortment of other deep fried snacks & slightly different flavoured chutneys. I had a chicken biryani for my main, which was fantastic & my partner had the lamb & spinach, which he also loved. In total we had 2 courses, a bottle of wine & a pint of beer & paid about £45 (including a tip), which we thought was excellent value. The restaurant has a great atmosphere & waiting staff who are incredibly helpful & polite. Very much enjoyed. Would definitely recommend & hope to visit again soon.

We were starting to despair on Friday evening as to whether we would find somewhere decent to eat in Nottingham, and then fortunately we stumbled upon Kayal. We were warmly welcomed and the food was also excellent - southern Indian food that is extremely tasty and not your normal Indian, with lots of veggie options.
For starters, we shared a Dosa masala which was excellent - it's a kind of pancake with a spicy potato mix inside, accompanied by coconut chutney (yum!) and two other equally tasty sauces. It is huge, though, so I would recommend sharing one as one each would have been way too much. We then had the spiced aubergines and a mushroom mix, both of which were really excellent. The food is spicy but a very developed, intense flavour, which means the sauces can't have been made to order - you need time to achieve such an intensity of flavour. You have to like coconut, though (which wasn't a problem for us), as most dishes do have a coconut taste to them.
Two little blips were the cooking smell in the restaurant, which lingered on in our clothes afterwards, and the huge amount of noise. OK, it was Friday evening, but if you want to go for a romantic meal for two, this isn't really the place. Otherwise, highly recommended!

We went last week for lunch. The business lunch, available in meat and vegetarian versions, is astounding value at £4.95. It is a thali served on a large metal platter with several small dishes of different curries and chutnies each brilliantly flavoured and prepared, with rice and a dosa. Remarkable value for such excellent food.

Found this place originally through tripadvisors. We've taken several friends there since. What i really love is the fact its different to your usual curry. Much richer flavours, you can almost taste all the different spices, and the dosa's and puffed breads are wonderful, not a naan in sight.
We found the service to be good and they have always found us a table with no notice, obviously book ahead for peak times. Love it love it love it!
