On this occasion I stayed at the Igloo Annexe which is their sister Boutique accommodation on the same street. Awesome! If you are a group or simply looking for a private room on a budget, make this your first choice in Nottingham. The rooms are spacious, light & airy, modern design and the beds are just sooooo comfortable! [memory foam mattresses & pillows!]. As for many choosing a hostel, a top criteria is usually cleanliness and hygiene - well Igloo Annex scores 5 stars on this count, its equally if not better than a hotel - honestly it is!

Naturally, this hostel is located right in the heart of the city, so do expect to hear the activity of the main road and the likes - you are in the city!

The staff here have just won an award for their customer service too... honestly this is just a fab place to stay!

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Choose the igloo Annex if you are looking for a private room solo or room as a group.

I very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with the staff - however, in budget accommodation one gets what one pays for. As the single rooms in the annexe weren't available when I booked, I selected a mixed dormitory bed. It was terrible. The one thing that this hotel could do to improve guests' experience would be to replace the wobbly metal bunk bed frames with rigid frames: every time the sleeper below me got into or out of bed, or tossed and turned, I was rocked back and forth. It felt like trying to sleep on a train. I was always awake before dawn and unable to get back to sleep; probably I slept three to four hours each night, and as a result I was tired and couldn't think straight during the day. Add to this that despite a sign posted on the bedroom bulletin board asking guests to come to the living room to use laptops &c. rather than disturb other guests trying to rest, people regularly were up till the small hours, with the overhead light switched on, using laptops in the bedroom. Lastly, althought he WiFi worked in the mornings, its speed slowed to an unusable crawl in the evenings - probably because so many people were trying to use it simultaneously. I would return to this hostel only if I were staying in a private room in the annexe - or if I were downright desperate! Let me end on a positive, though - I really did appreciate the friendly staff, en particulier la tres sympathique fille de Paris qui, j'espere, aura un tres bon voyage en Nottingham et en angleterre.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for the annexe, if it's available - especially if you're staying on a Friday or Saturday night!

Efficient booking system. Upon arrival the staff were welcoming and helpful. clean and comfortable rooms. We were in the annex over the road, quite noisy due to the location and lack of double glazing, but didn't stop me from sleeping too badly! Kitchen is clean and well equipped. Would recommend to friends.

Two grandparents and 4 teen-age grandchildren. Friendly accomadating staff, clean good beds, we cooked breakfast in the kitchen. We felt safe and slept well. We were in the annex. We had a room for 4 and a room for two. Key deposit is priced a bit high, but no problem getting the deposit back.

Good website, efficient booking and friendly staff. Initially a bit daunting for my young daughter (young male smokers drinking beer and Jack D from the bottle as you try to get up steps to front door of hostel!) but more than offset by helpful greeting - thank you, Charley. We were in a 'family' room in annexe over the road so cannot comment on main hostel . Good security, recently renovated, good shower etc and modern kitchen with all the kit that you might need. Both the bathroom and kitchen were very clean and tidy. Our room was large, clean and well equipped. Pukka bunk beds (not creaky YHA ones!) etc with memory foam mattress & pillow - very comfortable. Lots of young travellers in the annexe, all very sociable. The room and facilities get good marks. Location: the room overlooked a reasonably busy road, near the city centre, in an area with many take away restaurants and a couple of pubs. It kicked off literally underneath our window on Friday night with loud screaming, swearing, punches being thrown and the Police arriving. To be fair, this could happen anywhere but that was early in the evening and it didn't really improve. The human and road traffic was noisy all night...the massed chorus of stiletto heels traipsing home at 02:30 was the icing on the cake! Saturday was an improvement but even then it was noisy enough. Simple solution for the hostel: install double or even secondary glazing - problem sorted. So, it's a good hostel but, if you're a light sleeper, best take some ear plugs or something to reduce the noise.
