Owner description: Longshaw is a beautiful part of the Peak District looked after by the National Trust. From a family day out to a base for serious walkers and cyclists, Longshaw has trails for all abilities and interests. Look out for spectacular wildlife and opportunities for photographers, too.

There are lots of wonderful places to visit in the peak district, but the longshaw estate is probably my favourite because of the variety of different landscapes and the wonderful views which continually change. You have moorland, semi open woodland and dense woodland, as well as nice streamdside walks above and down padley gorge.
I tend to park just outside the main longshaw estate area and walk in, as you end up with the more remote areas to yourselves with only the central part near the teashop and top of padley gorge getting crowded.
Have eaten at the teashop which is OK, especially the view, but prefer to use the facilities just outside the estate, Grouse Inn good for pub meals and a nice Suntrap to sit out at the back, and the cafe at Grindleford station at the bottom of padley gorge is great for no nonsense food, although you should expect beautiful decor, but does offer great value.

There are lots of walk attached to the Longshaw Estate. You can either opt for a stroll around or a slightly more adventurous one depending on your willingness/ability. Which ever you chose you will be awarded with stunning views and landscapes. To top it all you will be rewarded with a fantastic "cuppa" at the National Trust cafe - a stroll from the NT car park. Fee payable but not unreasonable. They have sensible sized tea pots and different coffees and cakes that are generously proportioned - tasty too ! You can eat indoors on those inclement days and outside on the better ones.
Whatever your capabilities, enjoy a visit to the Longshaw Estate. We do !

Had a lovely day out in the sunshine. Different routes to take depending on level of difficulty and duration required. Magnificent views of the peak district and lots of places to stop for a picnic. There is a lovely cafe with both indoor and outdoor seats - great if you have a dog! Area?my enjoyable day, will be visiting again!

what better place to visit, even on a dull day the views are still amazing. Other than the Yorkshire Dales this is a most spectacular area of the country. Visited the National Trust Shop / café, can not say I was impressed. I think that the shop area took up more valuable space that would be better used by the café as the queue 8 people long took 20 minutes to be served, the cakes & drinks were OK. it was very hectic in there, I did feel for the staff, particularly the young man covering both the shop till & café.
