“The retreat we needed.”
Reviewed January 19, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

We stayed in Bracken, the week after Christmas. We needed a break away from everything - and we got it!

The huts are beautifully constructed from reclaimed wood and stand within the grounds of the stunning Hesleyside Hall. So many little details have been thought of - lamps, cooking utensils, pans, marshmallow forks, a beautifully fitted little kitchenette and shower room - we we able to cook a chilli on the top of the woodburner.

On one morning we watched the dogs from the hunt (legal & ethically-run) running across frosty fields. We loved waking up in our incredibly comfortable bed, lighting our wood burning stove and having a cuppa while the hut warmed up. The huts become VERY warm and cosy, very quickly!

On one evening we watched the milky way turn overhead as we sat around our private fire pit, toasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate - magical. When we craved some company we headed to the Hollybush Inn and chatted with some regulars - but mainly we loved the solitude, the silence and the immersion in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. For the first couple of days we barely left the hut!

Anna and William were lovely hosts, making sure that we were comfortable and cosy, which we were! We loved these huts and will be back.

“Perfect retreat, perfect location - what more could you want?”
Reviewed January 16, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

My husband had planned a surprise weekend at Hesleyside Huts for my birthday - on arrival the beautiful, quaint looking huts looked so inviting we couldn't wait to get in. We were not disappointed - everything you could wish for and possibly need was there. The bed was so comfortable, the pillows were just right and the wood stove kept everything lovely and cosy. We are already planning our next trip.

“Luxurious & peaceful rural retreat - the perfect escape”
Reviewed January 2, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

I have never written a holiday review before but wanted to share how much we enjoyed our stay here.

I found these luxury huts by chance and am very glad I did. I love all things outdoors, but also my home comforts - so this was perfect! A shower! A loo! A king size bed! The huts are super top quality, beautifully decorated, and had absolutely EVERYTHING you'd need. I'd brought my own washing liquid, loo roll and soap but all were supplied.

It took us a while to get the fire going nicely, but once it was, the hut was really cosy and hot. We were both quite glad the weather was cold and miserable as we were happy enough inside - enjoying a bit of escapism, with no mobile reception and just the radio, our games and books.

We'll be back in the summer, hopefully - to enjoy the OUTDOOR fire and some star gazing!

If you love the outdoors, getting away from it all, but having a posh en-suite - then this is for you!

And thank you William and Anna for providing everything we needed! And the extra - hugely appreciated - edible treats!

“Peace, quiet, tranquility.... step back in time.”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

The last time I went 'camping' was with the Girl Guides in the 1960's so I needed to have 'glamping' explained to me and I needed some encouragement to try it out. With memories of damp sleeping bags, aching bones from sleeping on the ground and then finding a frog under my rucksack I set off to try the 'huts' at Hesleyside! Pure luxury on wheels awaited me. I found everything I could possibly want ...peace and quiet, birdsong,
a red squirrel in a nearby tree and wonderful views. The night skies full of stars rivalled those I had seen in the desert. All of this on a doorstep that led into the warmest cosiest
facilities. The bed was superb and I loved the quality bed linen (bit of a fad of mine), the tasteful décor, complete with the lantern hanging from the beam, was so welcoming. My Girl Guiding days may well be over but I will certainly be 'glamping' in the Hesleyside Huts at every opportunity.

“A Little bit of heaven”
Reviewed December 18, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

If you're looking to glamp in peace and quiet and in lots of comfort then this is for you. The huts are spotlessly clean, with beautiful accessories and everything you could possibly need for your stay.

The beds are the most comfortable we've ever slept in together with comfy quilts and snuggly pillows - in fact all the plans to explore we had went out of the window as we were so cozy inside.

They're warm enough to be there in the depths of winter - in fact the colder the better as you get to experience the real heat of the wood burning stove - and having an en-suite shower and toilet just adds to the perfect experience.

One word of warning though - you need to heat the stove to its maximum to get anything to cook - and put a lid on the pot.

Will definitely be back - hopefully in the summer when we can enjoy sitting outside and looking at the stars in the inky blackness.

Congratulations to William and Anna for creating such a special place.

“True luxury camping in a beautiful Northumberland location”

I visited the Hesleyside Huts in November with my sister and our friend - we absolutely loved it and are already planning a return trip. I have absolutely no interest in camping, but the 'glamping' experience on offer at the Huts is on a whole different level and much more up my street!

On our arrival at the huts on Friday night we found roaring fires and a basket of cake waiting for us. The huts themselves are stunning: sitting on a little hill near Hesleyside Hall, though the location is remote we felt very safe in our private field despite the darkness of the skies (the huts are in a dark sky reserve, so on a clear night the skies are amazing). Both huts are beautifully finished throughout and equipped with just about everything you could need for a comfortable weekend, and more besides: Le Creuset cookware, spacious hot showers, marshmallows for toasting on the wood burning stove, and bundles of fluffy towels (with a sneaky bag of pick-and-mix tucked in as an extra treat!). The king-size bed nooks with their enormous fluffy duvets are probably the cosiest beds we have ever slept in, plenty of room for two to share without being squeezed.

We took up the offer of a breakfast basket for Saturday morning (£15) and were very grateful to have our warm croissants and locally sourced bacon, sausages and eggs hand-delivered by Anna, one of the Huts' owners. As confirmed city dwellers we struggled a bit to keep our wood burners going once the provided firelighters ran out - although we did manage to cook a tasty stew on our first night, making use of the full range of cooking equipment provided. We would suggest bringing some extra firelighters if you're staying more than a few days and (if you're as hopeless at fire-starting as we are. and can't start the day without a cuppa) maybe bring along a travel kettle as a back up. We also met owner William on our departure day, and he kindly let us know that we didn't need to rush to make our check-in as new guests weren't due - giving us a much more relaxed start to the last day of our trip that was much appreciated.

Many thanks to William and Anna for such an effortless booking and stay, and we can also recommend a visit to Kielder Observatory (40 mins drive from Huts), Boe Rigg campsite's coffee shed (10 mins drive from Huts and with a gallery full of very covetable artworks), dinner at The Pheasant Inn (20 mins drive from Huts, tasty game & mushroom pie), and the Sunday lunches at Vallum Farm's cafe & ice cream parlour (35 mins drive from Huts - didn't know they did Sunday lunch, very pleased to discover this!)
