“Another amazing meal!”
Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

Another great night out at Danielle's! Dined on a very busy Thursday night but this did not seem to pose any problems for the waiting staff who were both attentive and friendly - one of the girls even took the time to chat with us which is a nice touch, especially with it being so busy! We took the set menu... Both of us went for 3 courses as everything sounded amazing. We went for the ham hock terrine - a nice change from the generic pate you usually see on a lot of set menus - and my partner went for the artichoke salad. Both yummy! Then onto mains... Sirloin medallions wit h probably the best Diane sauce I've ever had, and the seabass and fishcake - all with gorgeous Vegetables and crispy roast potatoes which are included in the price. It's so refreshing to be served side dishes without the additional charge which you seem to see less and less nowadays. We were spoilt for choice with desserts so decided to get two to share. The brandy snap basket filled with Eton mess was quickly demolished along with a passion fruit creme brûlée. Top this off with a beautiful bottle of Pinot grigio garganega and a cosy atmosphere and you've got an amazing (and well portioned) 3 course meal for two plus wine for less than £50. I just feel sorry for the customers that had to be turned away that evening because it was so full - they missed out on a right treat! A continued favourite place to dine of mine.. And having dined in some of England's top restaurants, I have to challenge those who have compared it to the food you find in pubs!

One starter, two mains, two desserts plus drinks for less than £50! If this is not good value in an a la carte restaurant on a Saturday night then i don't know the kind of establishments that you frequent. Its non-specific reviews like this that make my blood boil!!!!!!! There's a Wetherspoons down the road!

“Old School Excellence”
Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

I've eaten here on and off for over 10 years. Never had a bad meal. This is how catering should be. No menus so all fresh and seasonal products well prepared and well priced. No wonder its busy as its the best place in Hexham.

“Not great”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

Danielles has always been a bit of an oddity but my family and i have always enjoyed the food over the past ten years. However,we have been away from the area for a year and have recently returned and we were looking forward to our usual meal. The awkwardness was palpible and the fooD disappointingly poor, watery poached eggs for my starter and a fillet steak seriously over cooked (i asked for medium) which was very dry. At £92 for starter and main meal for 4 at a decent restaurant is not a shocking amount but this was very average pub grub at best....sorry i so wanted it to be much better

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal at Danielles. We pride ourselves on showcasing locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfection so it is a disappointment to hear that your food was incorrectly prepared. As you know yourself from previous visits and also from other comments that this is an extremely rare occurrence, as such i hope this will not prevent you and your family from visiting us in the future.

“Good but could do better”
Reviewed July 3, 2013 via mobile

Went here with a friend last week, the building itself and inside looked lovely and cosy. Overall really good value and the passion fruit creme brulee was gorgeous. Things to be improved on would be the manager knowing what the soup off the day is and the waitresses were lovely but they need a lot more training. I dont want to write what mistakes they made because i know how young they were and still at school so not properly qualified. But we would deffinatly return, had a nice night.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments.

I am pleased you enjoyed your evening despite the shortfalls in service. I was aware that i had the two most junior of our staff working that night, unfortunately it was a situation that was forced out of necessity rather than choice due to several of the more experienced staff being unable to work for one reason or another.

Due to a high number of walk-ins the evening got pretty busy quite quickly and it would be fair to say that the service wasn't up to its normal high standards. I can only apologise for this and reassure you that it was indeed a one off. The waitresses in question are both receiving on-going training and on your return i am sure you will see a marked improvement.

As a side note, with regard to the soup, i had been aware of what it was however it crossed my mind when you asked that we had had a very busy lunchtime and rather than give you incorrect information i thought i would double check with the kitchen that it was the same as made that morning or whether they had made a new flavour soup. As you correctly pointed out i should have known and would normally check prior to service but must of got sidetracked with other things, namely unsuccessfully trying to arrange an extra menber of staff for the evening at short notice.

Once again many thanks you for your feedback and i look forward to welcoming you back to Danielles.
