We thought Chesters Roman Fort was fantastic. The adults loved all the artifacts in the small museum and the kids loved being able to run and crawl in and around the remains. It seemed to make the visit so much better for them instead of having to just look at bits and pieces of history behind glass cases. Walking around the remains, you really get a feel for the roman's ingenuity in designing and constructing the fort. One of the best sites along Hadrian's Wall. Highly recommended.

Nice to see the Roman village. Would recommend English Heritage perhaps adding a little coffee shop, and perhaps offering day passes for the Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall, otherwise the price fairly adds up if you visit a few English Heritage sites in the same day (>£5 pp for each site).

Enjoyed a couple of hours wandering around the fort. All very natural and you can actually walk on and around without restrictions. Small museum also very interesting.

This is the best Roman Remains in this area by a long margin, even better than Housesteads.
The sloping site clearly shows the were very sophisticated with baths and bridges
You must visit this site and include a visit to the museum which has a very good collection of artifacts.

If You are walking Hadrians Wall, Please put Chesters on your agenda.
Very helpful and chatty staff. Nice little tea/coffee sandwich shack which was very welcome as we were back packing. All on a great site.
But the Museum is a MUST SEE. Loads of Roman artifacts in a great collection, really puts it all in perspective when walking the WALL!
