“Great stop on Hadrians Wall walk”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Small farm & B&B we had a night stay at. The dinner was great. Simple chicken and potato with veg and the wife and I were hungry after a great day of walking. We were able to do laundry and dry all of our gear with help of the owner. Thanks for a great stay and the memories of a great trip as we walked across the country.

We arrived at Greencarts after 18 miles walking the Hadrians wall trail, Sandra was very welcoming, we had a lovely room, she apologised for putting flowery covers on the bed as she thought we were 2 women travelling, actually my son and I! We had arranged for Sandra to provide us with dinner by calling the night before, she offered us a choice of food, we opted for beef pie which was homemade and very good, plenty of it and loads of veg, my son also had pudding which he said was very nice. Breakfast was very good, and our packed lunches were also brilliant, the bread was lovely. Sandra was a great hostess.

WE enjoyed our stay - warm and cosy and clean. Sandra was lovely and the dog was adorable and friendly - good location to walk to the wall path from and close to Chollerford to get to Chesters Roman fort.

A welcome haven for Hadrian's Wall walkers. Options include camping, camping barn, bunkhouse and B & B. We chose bunkhouse v well appointed. Spacious and homely. Drying facilities :) local Indian takeaway delivers. Breakfasts did us for lunch too. We'll be back....

This was our first night on the Hadrian's Wall Walk & we were looking forward to seeing what our first B&B was like. To my disappointment my reservation had not been respected, even though I had sent a deposit of 20pounds. Instead of a double room with ensuite as we had expected we were given the bunkhouse, bunkbeds & make your own bed.....& charged 50pounds for it...if I had wanted to youth hostel I wouldn't have bothered doing so much research, making a reservation or sent a deposit. No effort was made to compensate us, on the contrary, the attitude was we should feel lucky only having to pay that price. I found much better value for money & more friendly people in our other B&B stays.

Do stay at Greencarts by all means if walking Hadrian's Wall, but it is about a mile off the trail and certainly is not in Humshaugh village, about 2 miles away to the East. Find it on the map to be sure of its relatively isolated location. Having written all that, Sandra the hostess was brilliant, offering us sandwiches on our late arrival. The room was fine, breakfast lovely and we were sent off with a good packed lunch. And they take plastic!

Room Tip: If you need an evening meal en route to Greencarts (from the East), try the George on the riverside...

We have often stayed here camping because it is relaxed, friendly and with fantastic views. The toilets, showers and washing up facilities are also very good. We have often taken dogs (3 this trip) and never had any problem with the farm dog. This time we stayed in the b and b which was great. The room was cosy with all amenities and breakfast was plentiful and excellent. We always enjoy our stays here!
