Truly amazing that anyone lived through our recent past, you could get hung for almost anything!

Good little museum with a focus on the buildings history as a gaol. Difficult to imagine the squalor of the place in days gone by.

Well worth a visit

Lovely old building. Museum is quite small, but interesting none the less, especially the history of the rievers. Sort of place to spend an hour or two, rather than a whole day, but worth a visit if in Hexham

We were the only visitors in here till we left, such a shame as it is excellent. You are given a laminated sheet to help guide you round and the lift up and down makes it a great visit for those who find stairs difficult. It is jammed full of fascinating facts and items and has a great atmosphere. A room for children to draw and design shields etc is handy. Plenty of interactive items too for such a small place.
If you gift aid you can have an annual pass which is worth it as a lot to read and digest. We loved the room with the three stories of life back in the day, the video of the border fights was well worth watching and press the button for the gaoler's tale.

Loved it especially the history of the rievers in the debatable land.
Trace the family names of the orders. Lift makes it accessible to all. Brill
