Owner description: A group of islands on the very north-east of England which represent one of the greatest dangers to shipping around the entire British Isles.

I previously visited the Farne Islands over 20 years ago when I was a teenager and returned recently with my partner. Little has changed with the trips, although the commentary is much improved (even if the history hasn't changed!).

Be wary of going in June/July as the Arctic Terns that nest there are seriously protective of their nests and will happily dive bomb your head with little warning. You can easily wave them away, but it does look like a scene from Hitchcock's 'The Birds' at times and younger visitors (and my partner) could find it terrifying. I thought it just added to my enjoyment of the trip!

We had big expectations for this trip around the Farne Islands and although we were sad we missed most of the birds - especially the Puffins who stay from April to July/August - we still were not disappointed.

Grey seals were fantastic and huge colonies of Cormorants and Shags very interesting. Guilemots less common but still present as well.

Inner Farne island, which is being kept by the National Trust, was a non-event for us as we decided that £5+ to walk around the rock when most birds have gone was a bit too much.

We took the trip to the Farne's islands on a Golden gate boat trips spent a total of 4 hrs. out and only 30 mins was on the island enough time to eat dinner which was against the lighthouse which was great and pleasant. Saw seals and loads of sea birds was a bit late for the puffins but the lady did say this before we had books so we was aware. the Skipper kept us inform of everything of where we was and tales of the area planning to go again next year just a bit earlier. The price was only £10 per person and park on the pier was only £4 for the full day coupled with the fish and chip it was a great day out

We took a one and a half hour boat trip from Seahouses to visit the islands.
The weather was excellent which made it a pleasant time - my wife was desperate to see puffins and although August is usually too late, we did see a few which really made her day.
I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes fresh air and wildlife - we opted not to do the trip with a one hour landing, but this is possible if you want to (at addiditional charge by N.T.)
