Owner description: A group of islands on the very north-east of England which represent one of the greatest dangers to shipping around the entire British Isles.

Visiting the Farne Islands was one of the highlights of our trip. We went out the Billy Shiels company and they were great and I would highly recommend this company. We saw seals and so many different species of birds and the weather was perfect.

We were amazed at how close you could get to the birds and my photos are fantastic, they look like they were taken by a professional as we were so close to the birds.

The price of the boat out to the island does not include the national trust fee to land on the island, but this is a small price to pay to ensure the sustainability of these bird species.

We were not avid bird watches but this trip to Inner Farne Island has almost converted us!! It was spectacular.

A wonderful place. The trip take about 2 1/2 hours, land on the inner farnes and in July we saw so many puffins, terns, tern chicks and many many more. Also good sightings of seals. Choose a calm day and enjoy nature. we have Ben several times in the past and each time is different depending on the time of yer. MAke sure you have a hat on , the article terns love to peck as they protect their chicks.

We went to Inner Farne which I think is easier to land on. The trip goes all round the islands then you have about an hour on Inner Farne. Loved it, although my wife didn't like the arctic terns dive bombing us! Saw also seals, puffins, shags, guillemots. kittiwakes etc etc. Wonderful experience.

Only criticism is that the way out we were on Glad Tidings VII & it was almost impossible to make out the commentary. Coming back we were on Glad Tidings II (think I've got the names right) and the commentary was much, much clearer but by then it was too late!

Apart from that, very much recommended.

We did the Inner Farne Tour, 2.5 hrs, a worthwhile trip for you & your family. Lots of interesting history & wild life, Seals, Artic Turns, Shags, Herring Gulls, & other birds. The turns were near the end of their nesting season & were dive bombing visitors on a regular basis protecting eggs & young. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HEAD GEAR.

We are not twitchers and were more interested in seal spotting than bird watching, but we were converted. We took the trip because it was very hot and the sea seemed a cooler option, but we were not prepared for the amazing sight of so many sea birds in a small area. The Farne Islands are amazing and well worth a visit, we loved the whole experience and would go there again tomorrow!!
