“Take the children here”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

On arrival with my grand children they were so excited to clamber out of the car , I hoping that things were not going to be disappointed was totally surprised, they had everything for the small child right up to about the age of sixteen. The lakes such a delight to walk round, bicycles available to hire if need be but take your own if you want. We stayed for hours and a joy to see them happy. It also was a nice sunny hot day, ice creams on hand also. Picnic hampers everywhere go and look you will not be disillusioned with the outcome. The children slept all the way home... Bliss

“An excellent day out for all ages”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Being fairly local we had been here a few times in the past, but not for several years. There is now a very nice visitor centre with good toilets, a cafeteria and gift/souvenir shop. There is plenty of parking - either on hard standing (stone chips) or on grass. The only charge is for parking, and this seems to vary between £3 and £5, depending on time of year and whether it is a bank holiday or main school summer holidays. Children from toddlers to around 10 enjoy the water-based activities in the play area. In the past we have taken grandchildren - you will need bathing cossie, old towel, croc-type footwear and probably a spare set of clothes. Be prepared for them to get wet/dirty, but have enormous fun. This time we went as a couple to do more walking in parts of the lake areas that we hadn't explored previously. We walked for about an hour and a half before returning for our picnic. There are plenty of water birds to observe and some interesting landscapes to view. We left well-exercised and relaxed.

“Brilliant value for the price of parking - £3.00 per car”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Travelling with 5 children aged 4 to 11 there was plenty to do for all of them. We hired bikes for two hours and really enjoyed cycling around the lakes - brilliant value for money on a not very nice day.
