Owner description: The beautiful Grade II* Listed Delapré Abbey, just one mile from Northampton town centre, is entering an exciting new phase in its history. Following the success of a Heritage Lottery Fund application in 2013, a £7 million project has seen this once "Building At Risk" undergo substantial repair and restoration works over the last 3 years. The Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust worked with Northampton Borough Council to involve the community and volunteers in the restoration project with open days, education projects, and public events and activities. Now, the Abbey has opened its doors to the public for the first time in its 900 year history, with The Trust managing the building as a fantastic historic venue for local, national, and even international visitors. We can’t wait for you to explore the stories of Delapré Abbey’s past with us!

Good for family walks there is also a tea shop and they have activity days also. Have been there all year round there are many different walks and a mountain bike route too.

Excellent venue and so much more could be made of it. NBC have allowed parts to become run down, it should be upgraded it is part of our unique heritage.

I went with my Mother and we were later than planned but they happily served us lunch even though it had officially finished. All the volunteers are friendly and its a joy to sit in the garden in the Summer.

This beautiful site is both historical and picturesque. Lovely walks at any time of year and most are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Lovely spot for a picnic or to just while away time. Something very calming and therapuetic about being there. Although the house is a little sad now and not open to the public, the gardens more than make up for that. Wide open lawns, formal and water gardens. Arboretum with so many trees and wildlife. Lovely little tea shop and lots of other activities throughout the year. Check out the Friends of Delapre Abbey website for futher details of what's on. You can walk further on from the gardens to the lakes, all signposted and full of wildlife too. Great for young children who just love to run or ride their bikes.
This place is special to our family worldwide, who always visit whenever they are in the county!
Go and see for yourself...you won't be dissapointed.
