“Good hotel if you can get a cheap deal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2009

My husband and I recently stayed here for a couple of nights for a shrt break. The hotel is easy to get to and is resonably close to Oxford and other surrounding areas as well.

I found the hotel to be good except for the fact that some guests were noisy whilst walking through the corridors - although this isn't the Hilton's fault obviously as they can't control who stays there! There was a group of girls who were exactly the same in the pool area - they were so loud, I had to leave......although I had to find my towel first as no matter where we put them, they kept on being moved or used by these girls! Eurgh!!!

Breakfast was included and it was great - excellent choice and they tried their best to make sure that all items were regularly topped up. Didn't stay in the hotel for dinner as both the restaurant and the room service looked far too expensive - £17 for a burger and chips for room service!!!!!! There are a few eating placed nearby - although avoid Buddies USA as it was garbage and the service was really bad!!!!

The hotel room was very big and cleaned everyday so no problems with that. The hotel as well is also very clean.

We had to pay £5 per day for parking which we didn't know about when we booked so watch out for that added expense!

All in all, I'd stay here again if I got it on a cheap deal as don't think I could pay full price and put up with all the noise!

Just had a lovely weekend at this hotel with family - we were made very welcome by all staff, the rooms were excdellent, 1 queen bed each which was a nice luxury, an excellent buffet breakfast included in the package, we were also made very welcome in the Health Club. Must recommend the the Wooden Wall pub in Collingtree, just turn left as you leave the HIlton and the pub is on the High Street (a 5 min walk) recommend that you walk as it sells a very good selection of real ales. Lovely weekend will be coming back

The sound insulation is poor and resulted on both nights waking early with doors banging. There was no central heating (only an electric convector heater) or air conditioning. Restaurant was average in quality and value and there were little irritations such as newspaper failed to arrive on both days and welcome pack (paid for in advance) not provided until second day. Overall it was OK but I would not go back as a first choice.

The Hilton in Northampton is a pleasant and convenient location to stay. We are local and chose to live there for a few weeks each time we have had insurance/building work done. I'm also a member of the gym there, so I pop in quite often. If I was asked to recommend a place to stay around here, this would be it.

I've always found the rooms to be clean, and the staff to be friendly and helpful, and and problems to be addressed easily. The pool and gym are by far the nicest at any hotel in the area, because they are clean, well-equipped and unpretentious. The pool is long enough to swim lengths (which is important to me) and there is also a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, plus a gym with 2 or more copies of each item of equipment (plus about 6 exercise bikes, and 3 running machines). Again the staff are helpful, and clean towels, shower-gel and body lotion are provided. Lockers require a token or a pound, but it is returned.

I've never had to pay for parking there once - they have a machine in the lobby for people who meet there for business, but if you are a resident just ask at the desk for your ticket to be validated and they will do it for free! Similarly, drinks are expensive, but if you use the gym there is free coffee there and a nice sitting area. I think that the hotel has put prices up for business people who meet in the lobby and hence the snacks, drinks and parking are poor value for residents (but easy to avoid).

The restaurant is good value and quite varied. If you get bored of eating the same thing on a longer stay they will even make something specially for you (I'm vegetarian and stayed for several weeks) and its always tasty. The wine is good quality and not cheap, but overall I felt like prices for a meal were fair.

I think all the rooms have now been modernised, and they are very comfortable. You can hear other residents, and large parties do seem to dominate the hotel (so worth checking if you are going to coincide with something major), also limited restaurant opening and menu during very quiet times, and on New Year's Day.

  • Liked — Clean, smart, well located for M1 and northampton
  • Disliked — Not very personal, can hear other guests

This was an internet booking on the Hilton site; the room booked was 'Double Deluxe' and promised bathrobe, slippers and a bottle of wine. These were never produced even though I complained on arrival having seen the room; the items called a Diamond Package were promised by the receptionist who then went off duty.
The replacement receptionist could not understand my complaint and refused the earlier promise (made on behalf of the hotel and therefore its manager) saying the room was decorated well and this should be enough.
The evening meal taken in the restaurant, without an à la carte menu, was so awful that it had to be sent back as inedible and I refused to pay for my guest's meal; detail - (1) piece of pork in a literal soup of mushroom bits and leek fragments, (2) piece of lamb in a soup of tomato puree and over-peppered, fragments of courgette.
On the strength of this experience I had to cancel the second night, skip the possible awful breakfast and move elsewhere.
My complaints on checkout were noted but NOT acted upon.
What else is there to say; false promises with the internet booking and no recompense for a ruined weekend.
I hope this feeds back to the hotel manager and I councel against any visit to this hotel if you have any expectations above the disastrous and also feel you will enjoy having to pay for parking as the final insult.

Stayed for one night to attend a business meeting. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were aminable. However there was a wedding party booked on the same night and I have never encountered such drunken louts. I felt sorry for the hotel staff, they broke furniture, the language was appauling and they kept us up most of the night with their continual shouting and kincking down the doors. I did complain and was moved to another room as we were staying next to the bridal couple. The foot marks on the door the next day obviously showed what the drunken louts had been doing all night.(kicking down their door) However the change of room still left us in the same area as the drunken guests. This experience has put us off staying at a Hilton again, as if they allow such guests in one hotel (for the money) then what will all the other Hiltons be like. It is a shame as I have been a hilton honors member for years. So far we have not heard any reply from the hotel after my complaint when I returned home.
