It is a pity really because most of the staff make an effort here. However the hotel is very worn and bares resemblance to a barracks. There are no comforts here, it is about basics. The food is really best left in the kitchen. Advice would be to eat out. The building and kitchen are what let this hotel down.

Faulty towers does not even come close. Lovely receptionist (Anna) and downhill from there. Rooms sparse, overheated and tired. Food in restaurant very poor. First time I have sent back a prawn cocktail! Chicken was not much better but edible. This place is to be voided at all costs !!!!!!!!

We booked this hotel as a last-minute weekend deal, mainly due to its location as it was near to somewhere else that we needed to visit. Because of the negative feedback we read regarding the hotel's annexe accommodation, we asked specifically to stay in the main hotel, which was indeed very nice. The room was large but decor was 'tired' to say the least. Large windows over-looking the garden, but single-paned which felt very cold - condensation poured down them most of the time. The room's heating didn’t come on until 6pm which meant that it was quite chilly for a couple of hours prior, but the receptionist did offer us the use of an electric heater if we wanted; as they had a collection of them in reception, I can only assume that they get asked for them quite often. Large damp patches on the walls and the shower was quite old.

Everything about the place was 'okay' but not great, including the food. Meals were taken in the conservatory which was lovely, warm and bright in the sunshine, but felt cold and damp when it was raining - that might have been due to the leaky roof which had buckets and towels underneath it. The staff seemed to work hard, but there weren’t really enough of them I felt. Our very young waiter spoke not a word of English and after bringing the wrong food and drinks to our table (three times) it did feel a little like an episode from Fawlty Towers. His manager's English was much, much better and she sorted everything out.

All in all, an okay trip especially as we didn’t have to spend very long actually in the hotel. We didn’t go in the annexe at all, but it looked awful from the outside and very out of character with the rest of the lovely old building.

Booked 2 night all inclusive break. Excellent value for the money. Loved the Manor building ...couldn't understand why they would want to add an eye saw to it! The hotel room was very comfortable and clean. We received good service from all the staff and had the weather been better would have had an excellent break.

Room Tip: Our room was in the main building, ensuite bathroom, entrance area and very spacious.

My wife booked the hotel and got a rate of £50 for the double en-suite room and breakfast. We also had dinner there and had starter and main courses for just under £17 each. At these prices it can't be faulted. However if we had paid more then there were a few niggles. The hotel is looking a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. That said the bar and restaurant have the wood panelled air of an elegant country house. For dinner I had the tomato and basil soup. The basil looked very much like coriander to me but was delicious nevertheless. Shame I had to ask for the bread and then ask again for butter. We then both had belly pork with dauphinoise potatoes. The crackling was excellent but the pork was a tiny bit tough.

We booked a two night breakaway with friends and upgraded to all inclusive. The hotel is an old building and full of character, but the building was very warm. We were made to feel welcome by all the staff who were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent. The rooms were big and clean. Just a short walk took you to the bus stop to Northampton. We would definitely have no hesitation in booking this hotel again.
