Description: Our small-but-beautiful bistro is found on the busy and lively Gillygate in York. A street full of independent shops and businesses, it leads right into the heart of York through one of its ancient City gates. A traditional and cosy bistro front room that evokes the brasseries of Paris connects to a more spacious and lighter garden room at the rear. This in turn leads to our charming and secluded garden area adjoining the City Walls and basking in the glory of the fabulous York Minster. Whether you come for breakfast, for lunch, or an evening meal, the bistro provides a delightful setting for you to enjoy your meal. Ideal for romantic couples, families or large groups, Café No.8’s bistro offers simple, modern, quality food at excellent value. Make a reservation and see why we consistently appear in ‘top places to eat’ lists both locally and nationally.

“Great little find”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

Booked for a table of 6, I have walked past this place a number of times and really wanted to try it. Very cosy little restaurant, service was really good, the owner was there he was very friendly and nothing was any trouble. One little negative was that I was not told on booking that the normal menu was not in use and there was a festive menu, slightly disappointed but actually on arrival the food was fabulous. I had the Yorkshire beef plate, so yummy and perfectly cooked. Great chips! Definitely will come back and try the usual menu. This place is a little gem in a city full of chain restaurants. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!!

“A LITTLE GEM !!!!!”
Reviewed December 24, 2013 via mobile

What a find , recommended by a friend this little place came up trumps on all accounts !! The food was superb - a must is the salmon and beetroot trifle as a starter , I didn't want it to end it was so delicious !! I had the chicken which had been cooked in a water bath then pan finished as explained by the owner ( who by the way was charming , knowledgable and a thoroughly nice bloke - nothing was too much trouble !! ) , my 3 other friends had the venison which they say was equally as good ! Selection of vegetables to share were just yummy .Puddings fantastic ........what else can I say !! The whole dining experience was just lovely and I would definitely recommend and I will be back for sure !! Word of warning ........don't be put off by the cafe front window etc and the bare tables because it's ' pure magic ' on the plate and palate . ( knocks the new Star in the City into a cocked hat or should I say flat cap !!).

This cafe is a small jewel, offering original and very tasty food, very attentive service and a great decor. The food is clearly prepared with great care, presented in a way which looks as good as it tastes. What more to ask?
