Description: On Walmgate, within moments of the citys favourite tourist attractions, shops and sights, is Meltons Too. The sister restaurant of the critically acclaimed Meltons, Too is a larger, more laid back brasserie style affair. Set in an historic 17th Century building, the restaurant is full of character outside and in, where exposed brick walls and wooden floors are set with coloured chairs and wooden bistro tables. With a fresh, European flavour the menu uses regional and seasonal produce; offering brunches and lunches as well as dinner and a yummy selection of tapas for sharing. Meltons Too has been named the "best eating place of the year 2009" in the York tourism awards.

Meltons is a little way out of the centre but absolutely fantastic.

The three course lunch menu is only £14.00 and the choices and quality of food didn't disappoint.

We enjoyed soup and stuffed peppers for starters, followed by game pie, coq au vin and smoked haddock with mash and poached egg.

Everything was really good and the specials on the board sounded great with a big emphasis on fresh fish.

Enjoyable family meal with an age range from mid 20s to late 80s. Only 2 veggie main courses was a bit limiting for the 40% of the party who were vegetarian. In general the food was pretty good although the pie had pasty that was difficult to eat as it crumbled on tough and the filling was more of a runny stew than a pie filling. Cheese at the end was the highlight, with reasonable portions of delightful local cheese.

I visited this establishment for lunch last Saturday with a colleague and enjoyed it so much I went back on Sunday with a different colleague! The food was lovely and the staff were ever so friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again the next time I'm in York.

Our recent visit was only one of many. The menu is always good - the tapas are particularly to be recommended. I have never had a meal I have not enjoyed in this restaurant.
The service is good - friendly and helpful and the speed of service is fine - although can be a little slow when the place is very busy.

This is a great, atmospheric restaurant close to the city centre. As a veggie, I always find plenty to eat here.
