Stayed 16 an 17 January. Room clean and well maintained. They even left the key card in the room to keep it warm. Would stay here again without any hesitation. A nice walk into York centre or walk on the wall, which is situated to the side of the hotel. If you want a great hotel in a fabulous location look no further. Why pay more it's got everything you need and great value.

I stayed in Hotel 53 for 2 nights in January after they were able to offer the best rate in York. The weekend was with a friend for sightseeing, with it also being a working trip on the Monday. The decor throughout is clean and fresh, the room had everything you could need (hairdryer, very good shower, products and tea and coffee making facilities and a very comfortable bed)! I had a great nights sleep and found there was little noise inside/outside the hotel at night. The area the Hotel is situated is 'Up and Coming', but don't be put off. Be aware that the kitchen closes over the weekend, but the staff were helpful when I ordered a pizza on a Sunday evening and even sent the delivery man to my room! A helpful note to also say there is a Wetherspoons opposite the hotel if you're looking for a cheap breakfast or a couple of drinks. It was about a 5 minute walk into town, with Clifford's Tower and York Castle Museum opposite the hotel. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: I was in a twin room on floor 5, which literally was a double bed, split into 2. As the rooms aren...

We stayed in this hotel for the first time on 16 January 2014 and would definitley stay here again. The rooms were really clean (probably one of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in). The staff, especially the breakfast waiters, were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend this hotel without a doubt.

Our conclusion; evidently not. Hotel 53 was awe inspring from the grand lobby to the clean hallways, polite staff and jaw dropping room. It wasn't until we did all the things a couple would do in a hotel until we started seeing some school boy errors and felt dissatisfied with some of the choices the hotel had made. Beds were high but small and not overly comfortable. The shower spluttered into life with all the grandeur of a garden tap, infact a garden tap would have had greater water coverage. As I hung my towel up it almost instantly dropped to the floor due to a faulty hook. The television was small. There was no hair dryer or any option to rent one. For the price we paid, it wasn't too bad, a short walk into yorks centre, friendly staff and worth what we paid. Overall rating =3/5. not bad, just not great.

Just come home from a weekend at this hotel. Could not fault this hotel 1 bit.. Emily the receptionist at this hotel is very sweet and checked us in fast and efficient. She then gave out maps and told us local restaurants. The room is clean, and basic. The rooms can be a little noisy with other guests letting their doors slam but other than that i didnt really hear much.

Hotel is literally a stones throw away from all shops, restaurants and bars. Also very close to all museums, and York Castle. Would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of going ti York.

We've just returned from a great weekend at Hotel 53 with our 14 year old son and his friend. We only decided to book it less than a week ago and as most other hotels I phoned were already fully booked I was surprised that Hotel 53 could accommodate us with a double room and twin room with interconnecting door. Whilst relieved I was able to find accommodation I was slightly apprehensive as I did worry why they had rooms available when everywhere didn't. However I needn't have worried in the slightest, from the second we arrived the staff could not do enough for us, the service was impeccable. The rooms were modern, clean and welcoming. We only stayed for two nights and yet the rooms were cleaned, towels, toiletries etc all changed each day and we even had a knock on the door from a member of staff to check the room had been cleaned to our satisfaction. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and it was unbelievable service, there was our table and one other so obviously the staff were not rushed off their feet but the waiter pulled the chairs out for us, placed the napkins on our laps, offered us bread rolls and water before we'd even seen the menu. He was very attentive to our needs yet without being annoying, he kept his distance discreetly but appeared at the table at exactly the right moments. The food was absolutely delicious.
Can't fault this place, it's amazing and so are the staff, but if I had to find a negative it would have to be that the beds are far too comfy, you're at risk from missing out on what York has to offer because you won't want to get out of bed!

Decent, budget hotel , not too far away from the City Centre and shops. Clean, but smallish room, nice comfy bed, staff very helpful. HOWEVER , the noise coming from other guests rooms was not acceptable as you could hear EVERYTHING and this was not great when some rolled in during the early hours of the morning and disturbed everyone. Parking, as stated in a previous review, IS tight in the spaces designated for the hotel, but if you have a blue badge, you can park for free at the same car park, which is Council run. I would not chose to stay at this hotel for more than a couple of nights, due to the noise and I think this reflects how the hotel caters for it's guests. In light of the fact that there is no wardrobe, just a hanging rail with a shelf for your clothes - I don't think THEY expect you to stay any longer either ;-)
