We ate here on Friday night after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The food, beer and wine were excellent but what really made it was the friendly landlord who went out of his way to make every customer welcome and to ensure they were enjoying their evening. Nothing was too much trouble and he made everyone feel like a personal friend. We will definately eat here again and we look forward to sampling the lunchtime menu.

We ate a late Sunday afternoon lunch at the Royal Oak and thoroughly enjoyed a good beer and Sunday roast. Great comfort food, friendly service and reasonable prices. A great stop in old York.
