“Good value for money”

We have eaten at the Dormouse quite a few times, and never had any complaint. The quality is good, so too is the service. Would recommend.

“Friendly welcome but disappointing food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

Came across this pub by accident when returning from a visit to York. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a table. We have eaten at Vintage Inns before and have to say this isn't the best. I ordered the scampi medley which was overcooked and hard. My partner had the burger, the smoked cheese slice served on it was like leather. The waiter who brought the meals didn't ask if we wanted more drinks(we did) nor did anyone return to ask if the meals were okay or if we wanted anything else. Not somewhere we would return to.

“Little Gem.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

The welcome was very good. Our table service waiter was very polite even though he was busy at times. The menu is quite limited and then we were told the fish and game pie was off. so it was further limited. Luckily none of us wanted theses items and so the food we ordered was very nice and not to much or to little. We had dessert which we choose off a blackboard menu and was very nice to. OK this pub/restaurant was a bit pricey, we had Three mains, Three deserts and Five drinks and that cost £62 but cant complain as the service and quality food made up for it.

“Homely & friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

Ate here whilst staying at the premier inn next door. Has a really cosy old pub atmosphere, and the staff were great. The Beef & Merlot pie was tasty, and I enjoyed the spring cabbage, but I would imagine it wouldn't be most peoples idea of an enjoyable vegetable. Very few chips too, but decent value at £10.25.

“A little disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

The staff are great here (Rob served us that night) the wine and beer are very good, and the menu is very appealing but what we had was disappointing. My chicken had obviously stood under a hot lamp for quite a long time and was almost inedible. One other thing to bear in mind is the local drinkers using the bar, a small group propping up the bar, their language on the Saturday night was not acceptable and I think it's the manager's responsibility to control this as there is a very mixed clientele using the restaurant. It would not have been acceptable to me if any of the children in this area had been mine.
