I stayed here for four nights while on business in York. I rarely stay in Bed and Breakfasts so have very little to compare this with. My room was nice and the bed very comfortable. There were a couple of choices for breakfast. I opted for the full English breakfast which was very tasty and filling. The young lady who served us breakfast was very pleasant and cheerful, which was nice. The lodge is on a quiet street about a 15 minute walk from the city center. If you prefer not to walk there is a very convenient city bus that stops near the lodge. Overall a good experience and good value for money.

We stayed at the Fourposter Lodge for a couple of nights at the start of September and it was everything we could reasonably expect of a B&B.

The Lodge is well located only a 10 minute walk from both the city centre and the university campus, although in both cases you would need to know the best route as otherwise you could end up taking considerably longer.

We had room 3 which was much more spacious than we had expected based upon the website photos but as other people have mentioned the shower cubicle is a little bit cramped. The four poster bed was comfortable and a small selection of biscuits and drinks was provided.

The owners/staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was generous. We were never rushed and were always offered extra toast and coffee when we had finished. The Lodge does have wifi but it was very intermittent and if that's an important feature for you I would recommend checking with them in advance whether they have improved their coverage.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Fourposter lodge if I was in York again but just one note of caution: If you find chintz offensive then this isn't the place for you!

we stayed for 6 nights over bank holiday weekend. room 10 was comfortable, warm, and had everything we needed. only comment would be that it was a bit noisy as it was at the front on a busy road and it was hot so we kept windows open all night. decor is 'busy' and bit dated, but in keeping with style of hotel. dining room was clean but place mats could do with an update - not easy to keep clean.only saw michelle, who was a delight! breakfast was excellent. she even made us a flask of coffee for our drive home. 3 min walk to walmgate then on into the city in about 8-10 mins easy flat walk. excellent location, and great places to eat, within 10 min walk, for evening meals. bus 4 or 44 brought us from rail museum to outside the door, for just £1! if you want more on site amenities, don't go to a b&b. this did us just fine. and check room photos. they are very good. parking space was tight but plenty of free off street parking that was secure. we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: check photos on website. they seem accurate. maybe worth a phone call. we phoned and were advised to...

Stayed here recently and found the staff very nice and the breakfasts excellent. Unfortunately we had a suite with a seperate toilet outside our room which was a bit inconvenient but we coped. Plenty of parking but its a good walk town. Would we stay here again? Probably, but would try for something a bit nearer if we could.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one with a full en-suite and at the rear of the hotel if you can

We visited our son attending The University of York and looked for location close by. As the Fourposter Lodge was only 10 minute walk to residence and based location, having read other reviews and viewing pictures of the rooms on the website, we booked 4 nights. Upon arrival we immediately liked the look of the outside, quaint, well groomed and welcoming. Once inside, we felt the same way. The waiting area and dining room with its stained glass, pictures, wall sconces, colorful decor, cleanliness and staircase was welcoming and we were greeted by Gary and our room was all ready. We were pleasantly surprised by our spacious, bright and flowery room and of course the fourposter bed. It immediately reminded me of years ago visiting my Grandmothers house. One thing I will mention is that we also wanted toilet and shower facilities in our room and because we were later booking we did not have selection of rooms for the 4 nights. In room 3 we did have our own facilities that were perfect for us, however if you are a larger person or do not like small spaces, the shower in this room is very small. My husband is 220lb man and he could just get in the shower doors. We would book earlier next time and inquire about shower size in other rooms. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast every morning and Gary and his staff were very accommodating and made us feel right at home. The location is 15-20 minute walk to The Shambles and town centre which we also liked because we enjoyed the walk every day. We truly enjoyed our stay at The Fourposter Lodge. It was spotlessly clean, good location for us, comfortable bed, lots of hot water, friendly and welcoming and we would definitely recommend this B&B and would stay there again.

What a wonderful place to stay, very clean and tidy. First time to York and went via tripadviser to book a b&b for the 4 of us. If we ever go back to York we would definitely stay there again. Breakfast was fab. We loved the decor it goes went with the fourposter bed in room 9 and the house. Thanks for a fab weekend and the weather was wonderful to.

We stayed there for 1 night on the 12th of January 2013, Gary & his daughter were very helpful & the breakfast was also very good, the room was clean & warm. After reading some of the other reviews we were a little concerned about our stay, we needn't have been it was overall a pleasant stay & I would definitely stay there again if we are ever in York.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 which was good for a short stay but if I was staying longer I would prefer a roo...
