“Lucky Find”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Due to a misunderstanding I found myself without a bed for 2 nights after a fruitless visit to the reception of a large hotel chain.A helpful pub directed me to Burswood a few yards down the road. The owner George booked me into the Lavender Room which had a very comfortable double bed and a seating area as well as the expected en-suite. The room and as I found later everything else at the property is very well looked after and well chosen to a high standard. The price was good for what you got which could best be described as excellent and plentiful in every way. The room had a fridge and you got a small bottle of fresh milk as well as bottled water free to compliment the well stocked tea and coffee tray.Breakfast was delicious in a lovely conservatory overlooking the garden with its flowers and wild birds. My colleague stayed at the starred hotel chain hotel - all comparisons gave George a clear victory.

I booked a room for one night for my wife and I, this was our first ever b&b stay as we normally go for hotels. George was helpful and polite and made us feel very welcome. The room was small but perfectly formed with lovely decor and all we could ask for. Added extras like dressing gowns, slippers, chocolate and free wifi made for a comfortable stay. Our room had its own entrance outside which made it feel like our own little getaway.
Close to the city centre and a great spot for exploring York.
Also pleased to find was gay friendly and no uncomfortable looks when we arrived (which we have experienced in the past)
Would recommend to anyone!
Thank you George! Loved the baseball caps :-)

An excellent B and B in York close to the racecourse and only a short bus ride into town which meant we could leave the car and avoid the traffic and hassle of finding a car parking space in the city centre. We stayed in a comfortable room with very good facilities including a fridge stocked with clod water and fresh milk - a nice touch. Excellent breakfast made with good quality ingredients. And, last but not least, a very friendly host who went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and our short stay very pleasant.

Visiting York after two years, I considered myself very fortunate to get a late booking at Burswood Guest House and even happier to find George and Maureen providing the same immaculate service and delicious breakfast. A few modern alterations to the Garden Room bathroom and a larger flat screen TV were great, but the really important things like being spotlessly clean, lovely bed and bedding and a wonderful welcome are still there. The garden looked beautiful in the late Summer sunshine too. Of course, with only a handful of individual pretty rooms, its not always easy to get a booking, so don't hang about or you will miss out!

The whole place is beautifully designed and even corner decorations are worth appreciation. The garden is beautiful and peaceful. Spotless cleanness and plentiful food at breakfast are all too good to describe! What's more, the owner George and Maureen are not only friendly. They are such nice people that they gave me unselfish help when I was faced with difficulties and even when Maureen was not in a good health condition. They are someone you can trust!

The Burswood is a beautiful and extremely comfortable B &B. Our bedroom had every modern convenience as well as being beautifully furnished.
We were made to feel so welcome by the delightful owners, George and Maureen, who went out of their way to do everything - and more - to make our stay exceptional. The breakfast, in their lovely conservatory overlooking their charming garden, was abundant, with a good choice of delicious fresh fruits as well as the usual breads and cereal. The cooked breakfast was varied and delicious and they were more than happy to make us whatever we required - on or off the menu. We do hope we can visit again soon!
