Stayed for 2 nights in December. Lovely friendly welcome, knowledgable hosts on what to see while in York and where to eat. Clean warm room with modern decor. Great breakfast loved the bacon. We found a lovely wine bar called The Biltmore that did fantastic cocktails

Owners extremely helpful in every way. Zoe and family made us feel right at home. Great breakfasts in a lovely dining room. Free street parking and a short walk to the town center through the park containing the St. Mary's Abby ruins and the York Museum. The Stonegate room was a little small, but had a comfortable queen bed and lovely bath. This B&B is in an old house, so the stairs are difficult, but it has so many other plus features that we'd stay there again.

Room Tip: All rooms are on upper floor. If stairs are a problem, this should be a consideration,

A lovely b+b, gormet breakfast with home baked fresh bread and very special sausages and bacon. Superb location with an easy walk into the historic centre. Zoe was very helpful and recommended some great eating in town - especially Cafe Concerto. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

A delayed post as it was actually 2011 when we stayed! But I felt it was important to post a review! Myself and my partner stayed here for three nights and loved it! It is in an ideal location, the hosts were lovely, the breakfast fantastic and the room was just the right size! When visiting York we will definitely by staying here again! Thank you!!

Think of your favourite friend/s and how much you love staying in their house because it feels like home as it's so inviting and comforting then relocate it a perfect ten minute walk from York Minster; throw in free on-street parking, hearty breakfast with home-made bread and you've found the perfect place for a hassle-free, warm and cosy stay in York. We had searched for ages for somewhere charming and with character that was a walk away from the gates but that also had parking - a surprisingly diificult feat! As long as you make your request for parking at the time of booking, you get on-street parking (permit) opposite the guesthouse where you can then leave your car for the duration of the stay while you explore the many winding, narrow streets. St. Raphel's is perfectly decorated to capture the essence of the historically haunting, beautiful York. The rooms are themed; ours was the very pretty Stonegate - and featured photographs and extensive information about the street after which it was named. Zoe was a charming, friendly hostess who manages to run everything exceptionally well. Breakfast was very nice and the place is spotless. It was lovely to have the feeling of family in the house which was not instrusive at all and a nice change from the sterile and personality-free hotels we have stayed in before.
I would stay here again and indeed hope to on our next visit. I'm still missing our beautiful room with the big bed and bright airy decor where I would happily have sat, reading and drinking tea all day had I not needed to do a serious amount of sight-seeing and shopping!
Thanks Zoe and family for a lovely, relaxing stay from the Irish couple in the Stonegate room!

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor which was fine. As with most houses of its style it does feature narrow...

The couple take care of all the details in the decoration. The room is a bit small but so cute, the bathroom is excellent and new, the breakfeast is very well cooked and served (it could have more options of fruits in my opinion), the location is similar to all the other b&b, 5 min. walk from city centre, AND I could have fizzy drinks on my birthday breakfest, as it was St. Raphael´s day! What a coincidence! Excellent choice.

Good location just a short walk from the city centre, delicious breakfast (you can't beat waking to the smell of freshly baked bread), homemade shortbread in the room, great photographs of York and really great hosts. I'd recommend the St Raphael to everybody (and indeed I already have!).
