“LOVELY STAY”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Zoe and Dom are excellent hosts . They are always ready to talk but not intrusive. Our room was well presented and cleaned daily with tea , coffee and milk replenished. The breakfast is really tasty and filling and fresh bread is always ready. Try to meet little Ollie and Milo the dog . Ask about the station shortcut if using the train. Would stay again and recommend to friends.

My 17 year daughter and I stayed for 2 nights and loved it. The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was abundant and delicious. The inn keepers very friendly and helpful. Though the internet, at peak times was busy (it seems the situation all through York?), even my teenager was fine with it. We would definitely come back!

My husband and I stayed here on a recent tour of the UK. What a lovely place! We had one of the smaller rooms on the top floor, but it was ensuite, had a nice view and was extremely clean and comfortable. Zoe makes an amazing breakfast, and there's nothing like waking up to the smell of homemade bread every morning. The location, just outside the city walls, was great. It was nice being in a quiet, residential area, and watching families head off to school in the morning. We are looking forward to returning, and wish Zoe and Dom all the best with their little guy, Ollie.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor seem a bit larger, and of course, there are stairs to manage.

We had just stayed in a hotel in Portree for two nights which was okay. However, when we compared St. Raphael to the hotel we realized how inadequate the hotel was. From the moment we entered St. Raphael we felt welcome....Zoe is delightful and gives much of herself in running this B&B. The room and bathroom were spotless. The hospitality package was surprising...tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies--hit the spot after a long day walking around York. The on site parking was a bonus---great to park your car and be able to reach all the points of interest in a few minutes. Finally---the breakfast was the crowning star---fresh baked bread and lemon curd (yummy) along with cooked breakfasts that arrived at your table wonderfully presented and piping hot. Cannot say enough about this B&B---you will continue to thrive based on the services you provide!

Room Tip: If you are a senior you might want to ask if they can provide a room that precludes climbing stairs.

We had two nights here as a stopover between London and Edinburgh. It was close to all we wanted to do and see. The breakfast was amazing, fresh bread, great service, friendly. The value was great since a hotel would have been more £ for way less atmosphere.

Had a wonderful stay in this very conveniently positioned guest house to explore York on foot and makes a very good base.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
The guest house is spotless, very nicely decorated. Breakfast is served in a very pleasant room with a cozy fireplace. The breakfasts really set you up for the day, very nicely cooked english breakfast, with choice of veggie or meat sausages, and fried, poached or scrambled eggs, baked beans, tomatos and mushrooms. The best part of the breakfast though is the home baked bread, which you can smell baking when you wake up.
I really have had to laugh at some of the negetive comments about this guest house here. I dont think you will find better for your money!
