“''Simply Excellent''”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Visiting York for a wedding, stayed only two nights, wish it had been more, made to feel very welcome by George and Susan, who could not have been more helpful. Having booked on the excellent recent reviews of others , we fully endorse all their positive comments!
Accomodation excellent, very clean, roomy, warm and cosy.
Breakfast superb with generous portions. The location could not be more convenient, as others have previously stated, only 5 minutes stroll along the the river side to the Park and Hospitium venue and maximum ten minutes walk to Minster. Parking in Longmore Terrace is no problem and free. We will be back John and Jackie N

If you're coming for a do, this place is just round the corner (literally) from the Hospitium with a quick 5-minute access via the river to the park itself and the late night exit from the park is just a few minutes longer or you can carry on in town which is also a few minutes away.

The bedroom and facilities were really cosy, warm and clean and like any good B&B, you'll get a hot drinks tray with a kettle and basic toiletries. There was also a fridge in our room and wine glasses. The breakfast is plentiful with extra toast and if you prefer vegetarian let them know in advance. (The only thing I would suggest for them is to air out the hallway and breakfast room from the breakfast smells intermittently while having breakfast, it can get very stuffy.)

Also for those that are sensitive sleepers, even the room facing the tracks was fine for us as the trains run really slowly into York and they are few and far between in the mornings and evenings.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights and couldn't have been more happy with our stay.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome and at home. George and Susan are very friendly and helpful, giving us directions for the best routes into the city centre. The guest house is in a convenient location as it is around a 7 minute walk to either the train station or the city centre.

We stayed in room 1, which was downstairs at the front of the building. The room was very cosy and clean. There was everything we needed; including tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and a hairdryer (and it made a nice change to have a good hairdryer in the room!). Despite being on the front of the building there was little noise, as the street is fairly quiet.

Breakfast was excellent. We had a jug of orange juice brought to our table, along with plenty of tea and coffee. The full English breakfast was excellent, certainly one of the best breakfasts I've had while staying in a hotel or guest house.

I would certainly recommend Goldsmiths to anyone looking to stay in York. It is great value for money, and just a lovely place to stay. Next time I come to York I will certainly be returning!

Stayed here for couple of nights and were welcomed by friendly George & Susan. Nice room, clean and bright, fridge available in room to keep all your foods you buy. Breakfast was excellent, generous portions and tasty.
Only @ 7 mins from station and 10 from City Centre. Excellent location.

It is a good walking distance of the shambles(where we went mostly) and the train station. Nice fresh breakfast. Our room was pretty and clean. The shower was awesome compared to out rubbish one at home and the friendly staff were always there if you wanted something. The price was really reasonable too.

Stayed in early December, welcomed by George, gave us lots of info about the area, it was just a short lovely walk to the beautiful old streets of York. The rooms were lovely and clean, breakfast were great, set you up for the day!! A real find, we will definitely use again.

I stayed here for a weekend in late December with my boyfriend for my birthday.
We were welcomed by Geoerge, he gave us a map and showed us how to walk to the city centre which is only a 5 minute walk and it's beautiful.
The room was lovely and warm, it had a hairdryer (Great I forgot mine) fresh towels and toiletries every day. A fridge and a kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
The breakfasts were beautiful, my boyfriend doesn't usually like eggs but he loved Susan's scrambled eggs on toast! On my birthday I found a lovely bottle of wine in the room (Thank you). It was great value, £70 per night in a double room. Very friendly, breakfast was a bit early for a weekend (8-9) but we were up early to explore and shop anyway.
Thank you George and Susan, great hosts.
