I'm thankful that the statue is identified and there is a plaque explaining about Emperor Constantine.

My understanding is that under his rule, the persecution of the early Christians stopped and believers were able to practice their faith, leading to the spread of Christianity in other parts of the world. More power to leaders like Emperor Constantine for giving people their freedom of religion and other liberties!

What you have to love about the statue is the pose in which Constantine is captured. Such an open stance. Sets the great man apart from more traditional forms of carving and depictions of historical characters, squeezed into alcoves, prone on sarcophagi, etc. Having been placed in a fairly open space a further air of confidence and relaxation has been added.

Nice statue situated outside York minister. Good photo opportunity prior to visiting York minister. Again like the roman column a reminder of yorks strong roman history,

I wonder how many people miss this statue when they visit York Minster. But there it is, a really well made statue of Constantine, on a plinth. It’s about 20 metres to the right of the main doors, on the outside. Go see it.
