“Truffle making workshop”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

My mum, auntie and I visited the York cocoa house for a truffle making workshop. We didn't know what to expect when we arrived but were welcomed by the very dry but very humorous Matthew. His knowledge of chocolate was second to none and he intrigued (disgusted) us with tales of beef flavoured chocolate and blue cheese truffles! We were given easy instructions and made 10 lovely and delicious truffles. It was so much fun, we laughed a lot and he didn't even mind us eating our left over melted chocolate straight from the bowl with the wooden spoon! Would definitely return and will be making these truffles at home thanks to the handy recipe card given with our finished truffles. Thankyou for a wonderful experience.

“Perfect for kids and adults”
Reviewed April 26, 2014 via mobile

Visited Easter Sunday so was a great way to indulge in chocolate after Lent. The children really enjoyed making the chocolate models which they are so proud of they refuse to eat! We adults enjoyed the peace by relaxing with coffee and cake. Plan this into your schedule as it entertains and informs in an unrushed setting and the chocolate workshop is suitable for all ages.
My sincere thanks to the staff who were most helpful after one of our party had previously fallen and needed some attention to their wrist. As soon as they knew of this they prepared a sling and ice pack and searched for a chemist that was open.
Listening to the Minster bells while drinking coffee and with happy children. Full marks.

“Excellent ambience and great fun”
Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

We visited York cocoa house on mothers day. From the moment we walked in (early) we were so well looked after. Sophie the owner exudes passion and knowledge about all things chocolate which is contagious! We enjoyed a relaxed lunch, hubby and I gorged on the sharing plate, v generous and delicious. Kids shared a soup and wrap. All dishes contain chocolate, so clever and true alchemy. We then moved through to the workshop to take part in a truffle making class. Matt was v laid back, great fun and made the hour extremely enjoyable. We all had sticky hands by the end. I love the quirkiness of the cocoa house, all v authentic and would recommend to any discerning chocolate lover!!

“A great way to spend a morning”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

We booked on the 10am Chocolate Bar workshop, and arrived for breakfast beforehand. The food was imaginative, with chocolate included in every item - even the savoury ones. The workshop was great fun. Although we were among a group of 6 adults, they do accept accompanied children aged 4 and above, and adapt the workshop to meet the needs of the group. We bought lots of chocolate items to take away and had a delicious coffee while our hand made chocolate bars were ready to take away.

“Reasonable but overpriced”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We had savoury items for lunch. Service was slow and the place wasn't busy. £6.95 for cheese on toast with a side salad seems expensive. The other choice, an open sandwich seemed overpriced as well. The plus point was a big teapot of tea. Don't think we will return, unfortunately, when there are many better cafes round about. The loo was a bit scruffy.
